Current Situation And Strategies Research On Motivation Of Art Students In High Vocational College

In recent years,with the expansion of higher vocational colleges enrollment,an increasing number of students have chosen to learn art.However,English has become an impediment to students’ further study and employment.Therefore,this paper aims at investigating the overall level of English learning and learning motivation about art students in higher vocational colleges and puts forward some strategies of stimulating students’ English learning motivation.In the period of this process,The author tries to solve the following problems:What level is the art students’ English in higher vocational colleges? What is the whole situation of English learning motivation of art students in vocational colleges? How to arouse the English learning motivation of art students in vocational college?Based on the related theories of pedagogy,psychology and educational psychology,The researcher of this study adopted a hybrid research method combined quantitative research and qualitative research.The instrument of quantitative research is a questionnaire prepared by researchers,while the instrument of qualitative research is a semi-structured interview with students.The questionnaire survey is main and the interview is the auxiliary.The questionnaire is written in accordance with Gander’s motivation test,which has been slightly modified on the grounds of research content of this paper.In this study,SPSS21 was used for statistical data.In the questionnaire section,the author measured students’ scores and percentage of learning motivation,and then measured the mean of students’ learning motivation.Then the author made comparisons respectively in three aspects: internal motivation,external motivation and attribution of learning results,and attained the factors that affect students’ learning.In conclusion,the author measured the correlation between learning motivation and academic performance.Based on the results of the college entrance examination,four groups of students were selected to interview on the basis of the different scores.The results of the interviews were used for verifying the results of the questionnaire survey.At the end of the article,the author proposed the solving strategies.Combining with the data statistics and result analysis of questionnaire survey and interview,the author drew the following conclusions: It can be seen from the college entrance examination results that 95.7% of the art students in higher vocational colleges failed in English.They were not interested in English and disliked learning English,without confidence in themselves and low sense of self-efficacy,whose purposes of learning English were to pass the final examination,further study,employment.Factors of influencing students’ learning motivation include interest,self-efficacy,goals,learning objectives,and attribution of learning outcomes.Finally,In the light of the results of the questionnaire survey and interview and author’s teaching experience,the author of this paper come up with constructive Suggestions from two perspectives on English learning and teaching of art students in vocational colleges: how to motivate intrinsic learning motivation of students and how to motivate extrinsic learning motivation of students.
