| Over the last few decades, the status of Chinese literature in the international literary community has significantly gone up.Better translations of Chinese literature are in demand for those who are interested in Chinese literature. However,at present, the translation of Chinese literature mainly centers on novels. As a glorious part of Chinese literature,Chinese prose works have long been neglected in the translation community due to the difficulty of reproducing the beauty of prose. Therefore, appropriate strategies should be applied to the translation of Chinese prose. In Aesthetic Progression in Literary Translation: Image-G Actualization published in 2002,Jiang Qiuxia initially introduced the image-G actualization theory in literary translation, putting the emphasis on the holistic image of the aesthetic features in the source text.To achieve the same aesthetic experience in the target text, her theory provides a method to recreate the target text with the mental image-G of the source text.By integrating all the elements of a literary text, the image-G includes two qualities, contour(atmosphere)and mood(emotion).Ideorealm also contains emotion and atmosphere. The two conceptions overlap with each other. Therefore, based on the translation practice of the excerpt of We Three, this report studies the reproduction of the ideorealm of prose works from the perspective of the image-G actualization theory, and provides methods and strategies in prose translation. The translator chose to translate,as her translation practice, the second part of We Three, which is an artistic description of a dream. This report primarily offers a description of the background information and translation process of the practice. Moreover,it elaborates on the image-G actualization theory.Furthermore, from the word, sentence and paragraph level, this report gives various translation strategies under the guidance of the image-G actualization theory.Through the whole translation practice, the conclusion can be drawn that 1)the image-G contributes to the choice of translation strategies,2)the coherence and harmony of the source text can be reproduced by the reproduction of its image-G,and 3)the ideorealm of prose can be achieved by using appropriate translation strategies. |
