| The 1970-80 s were a critical period for Taiwan’s left-wing writer Chen Yingzhen. After he was released from prison in 1975,he faced two major problems: one was the domination of Taiwan by neocolonialism, the other was the impact of the "narrative of the Cultural Revolution" in the mainland. For the first question,Chen Yingzhen took an exposed and critical attitude towards it.For the second question,on the one hand, the "narrative of the Cultural Revolution" made Chen Yingzhen fall into ideological difficulties. On the other hand, since Chen Yingzhen’s left wing thought had already taken shape in the 1960 s,and his position of "Chinese nationalism" had been confirmed after seven years of prison study,he chose to rebuild his ideals in the midst of deep ideological depression. This article combines the "Washington Building" series of novels and the "Mountain Road" series of novels to divide Chen Yingzhen’s ideological exploration in the 1970s-80 s into three stages. In the first stage, with the core texts "Night Truck" and "One Day for Office Workers",this article represents Chen Yingzhen’s pain and confusion in the late 1970 s when he encountered belief difficulties, which is especially reflected in the temporary aphasia of "China" in the novel "Night Truck".In the second stage, with the core texts "Cloud" and "Emperor Wanshang",this article analyzes the two paths that Chen Yingzhen sought in the early 1980 s to solve the ideological depression: "People" and "Third World".Through the discussion on the issue of "democracy","Cloud" pointed out that the real "democracy" should be "the people are the masters of the country." As a result, the "People’s position" adhered to by Chen Yingzhen was clearly demonstrated."Emperor Wanshang" discussed issues related to neocolonialism and "separatism" in Taiwan’s society from the perspective of the "Third World." Besides,Chen Yingzhen also discussed Christian issues. The core texts of third stage are "Mountain Road" series of novels, which continue Chen Yingzhen’s thinking in the "Washington Building" series of novels.By reviewing the history of Taiwan’s "white terror" in the 1950 s,Chen Yingzhen, while remembering the left-wing revolutionaries, reflected on the "Cai Qianhui problem" and the "left-wing heritage inheritance problem".Through the comparison of the present and the past of Taiwan society,he pointed out that,in the neocolonial Taiwan society, the subject was alienated, the consumerism dominated, and the pain of national division and historical dismemberment had long been forgotten by people. All these proved the value of the revolution and also give a hint of the direction of the left-wing’s weight-bearing forward. |
