A Report On Escort Interpreting For The Guests From Trinidad And Tobago At Chengdu Research Base Of Giant Panda Breeding And Qingcheng Mountain

With the promulgation of the Foreign Investment Law and its support for multilateralism at the G20 summit,China’s opening-up has been further expanded.Interpreters,as a bridge between different cultures,assume an increasingly important responsibility.Increasingly frequent foreign exchanges also put forward higher requirements on the professional level of interpreters.How to effectively convey the speaker’s intention and make the audience fully accept it is an urgent problem to be solved.This practice report is based on the author’s interpreting practice as an escort interpreter in Chengdu in April 2019.During this period,the author provided interpreting services for three foreign guests from Trinidad and Tobago and led the delegate to visit the scenic spots of Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and Qingcheng Mountain.Based on this report,the author expounds the analysis from pre-interpreting preparation to postinterpreting summary,including the collection of relevant information in advance,the application and selection of strategies under the theoretical guidance of Translation Variation in the process,as well as the specific case analysis and summary after the practice.Through analysis,the author came to the conclusion that in the communicative practice of interpreting,to cope with difficult points like insufficient information,redundant information,and Chinese collocations,interpreters could take the approaches of supplementation,omission,and paraphrasing in Translation Variation,convey information efficiently,completely and flexibly,so as to realize the communicative purpose.The author also hoped to take this opportunity to provide more theoretical support for interpreting practice.However,the degree of flexibility,segmentation of translation units,adjustment of language structure,simplification of notes taking and categories of interpreting also impact interpreting effect,which are not mentioned here as this report focuses on methodological analysis at the linguistic level.
