A Practice Report On Simulative Consecutive Interpreting Of The Lecture On The Belt And Road Initiative

The accuracy in translation and interpreting directly affects the international community’s correct understanding of Chinese traditional culture,current affairs and policies,and economic development.This report presents a simulative consecutive interpretation of the lecture on the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI),focusing on three major interpreting problems related to political expressions with Chinese characteristics,cultural expressions with C hinese characteristics and illogical expressions.Within the framework of the Skopos Theory,this report illustrates the major interpreting standards,i.e.interpretation is required to be accurate,complete and coherent.Case analysis is made on the causes of the above-mentioned three interpreting problems.The report also suggests corresponding interpreting strategies mainly including foreignization,amplification,literal interpretation with explanation,free interpretation and information restructuring.It is hoped that the understanding of the contextual knowledge and the linguistic and cultural differences could to certain extent facilitate the interpreting burdens for the interpreters.
