| Reading strategies are powerful tools for students to improve their reading abilities and promote their autonomous learning.However,in traditional reading teaching,teachers often pay attention to language knowledge such as vocabulary,grammar and pronunciation,and require students to translate the text sentence by sentence,which influence the cultivation of students’ ability of analyzing and solving problems.To improve students’ reading ability,the National Curriculum Standards for English in Senior Middle School requires that English teachers in senior high school should guide students to master reading strategies.Besides,the Advance with English textbook adds “Reading strategy” module in the reading section of each unit,which also emphasizes the importance of reading strategies.This survey aims to investigate the current situation of the teaching of reading strategies in English reading class in senior one to answer the following questions:1.What is the current situation of teachers’ attitude towards reading strategies in reading teaching?2.How do teachers teach reading strategies in reading class?3.What effects do those methods have on teaching results?The author selects at random 216 students and 7 English teachers of senior one in Xuzhou Senior School as the subjects for questionnaire investigation.In addition,the author picks 3 teachers as the subjects of classroom observation and another 3teachers for interview as a supplement.The findings of the data analysis are as follows:1.The importance of reading strategies has been acknowledged by English teachers in senior one but the teaching of reading strategies is affected by time limitand pressure of reading teaching.2.Every teacher does teach reading strategies more or less.Teachers’ direct explanation,group discussion and exercises are frequently used in the teaching;evaluation and autonomous exploration sometimes are adopted in the teaching process.Among these methods,group discussion and autonomous exploration are the most effective for reading strategies teaching.3.When teachers teach reading strategies,students are more cooperative with teachers and more active in teaching activities.They feel more interested and confident in reading.Based on the findings above,some pedagogical implications are generated:1.Teachers should enlarge their knowledge of reading strategies to provide a strong basis for teaching practice and enrich their methods of teaching.2.According to the target reading strategies of each unit,teachers should provide more relevant reading materials for students to practice the reading strategies to improve their reading ability.3.Teachers should encourage students to learn reading strategies through autonomous exploration,making sure that they won’t depend on teachers and ignore the ability of autonomous learning. |
