A Study Of Xu Mmengyuan’s Comment On Xin Qu Liu Zhong

Mid Qing Dynasty,Xu Mengyuan made detailed comments on Xia Lun’s Xin Qu Liu Zhong through writing preface and eyebrow criticism.The preface is about 1130 words and the eyebrow criticism is about 52 thousand words.Xu Mengyuan’s opera criticism not only inherits the thoughts of previous opera criticisms,but also has new changes with unique characteristics.Studying the content and characteristics of Xu Mengyuan’s opera criticism has important academic value for studying opera criticism in the middle of Qing Dynasty.This article is based on Xu Mengyuan’s comments on Xin Qu Liu Zhong,summarizes the main content of Xu Mengyuan’s opera reviews in terms of ideology,language,and structure,and explores the individual characteristics of his opera reviews in terms of system,speech,style,and concepts.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,this article is divided into three chapters to study Xu Mengyuan’s comments on Xin Qu Liu Zhong.The main contents are:The first chapter introduces the basic information of Xu Mengyuan and Xia Lun from the aspects of life and creation.Xu Mengyuan had a literary reputation as a child,but living a difficult life.His collection of poems Shan Shan Xuan Shi Chao has rich content,diverse genres,cold and lonely artistic style.Xia Lun is frustrated in his career,his Xin Qu Liu Zhong,which was based on historical stories and ethical education,had an influence at the time.In the flourishing cultural environment opera reviews,Xu Mengyuan established a stable relationship between critics and writers with Xia Lun through the review of Xin Qu Liu Zhong.The second chapter explores the main content of Xu Mengyuan’s commentary on Xin Qu Liu Zhong from the aspects of ideological content,language characteristics and dramatic structure.Xu Mengyuan mainly commented on the ideological content from three aspects: preaching ethics,compensating for historical hatred,and criticizing the malady of officialdom,and evaluating the linguistic characteristics from four aspects: elegant show,vulgar voice,painting on paper,and excellent music.Comment on the dramatic structure from two aspects: the plot structure and the pomp structure.The third chapter analyzes the characteristics of Xu Mengyuan’s Commentary on Xin Qu Liu Zhong from the aspects of theoretical form,language of comment,method of comment,and opera concept.In theoretical form,the preface is brief and the eyebrow criticism is flexible.The language of the comments is elegant and visual.The methods of comment are both criticism,appreciation,and interpretation.In terms of opera concept,there are both opera,drama and literary concepts.Xu Mengyuan’s comprehensive,meticulous and distinctive opera commentary injected a new aesthetic experience into the opera commentary business,and was of great significance to the development of opera commentary in the middle of the Qing Dynasty.
