A Practice Report On Escort Interpreting Of Foreign Cargo Ship Service

As an important international trade port on the west coast of the Pacific Ocean,Qingdao port is becoming increasingly prominent.With the frequent business between ships at home and abroad,there is a growing demand for interpreters and their abilities.The interpreter plays an important role as a bridge between two sides in the ship trade and an indispensable intermediary in the communication.Therefore,the practical study of interpreters in ship service is of positive significance to the development of relevant personnel and industries.This report is based on the ship service interpretation for the trade cooperation task with SUNNY IRIS.Commissioned by the ship service company,the interpreter completed the interpretation practice as an escort interpreter.The interpreter’s main job is to provide interpretation service for the Chinese and foreign staff in terms of ship material supply business,helping both parties achieve good communication and ensure the smooth conclusion of the cooperation.The interpreter has selected a part of the interpreting recording and its transcription text as the object of case study,demonstrating that it is important for the interpreter to employ concepts of the Interpretive Theory such as "deverbalization" and "cognitive supplement" in interpreting,since it can help improve the accuracy of interpreting.The interpreting practice report is divided into four chapters.In the first chapter,the interpreter introduces the interpreting task in detail including its source,background,characteristics,purpose and significance.In the second chapter,the interpreter describes the process of interpreting practice,including the theoretical and practical preparation before interpretation,the description of the whole interpreting process,transcription,modification and the quality control.In the third chapter,the interpreter summarizes the problems encountered in the process of interpreting through the analysis of cases under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory.Aiming at the grammatical and cultural differences and misinterpretation problems involving many professional words and industry expressions,the interpreter advocates the use of induction,omission,"deverbalization" and "zero-interpretation" to improve the interpretation effect.In the fourth chapter,the interpreter generalizes the shortcomings and experience in the process of interpreting to create more inspiration for future work and study.The interpreter hopes to improve her interpreting ability through this interpretation practice and report writing as well as offer a few references for other interpreters in related field.It is of great significance for interpreting practitioners to realize that cognitive supplement’s importance.
