| Mineral resources are vital material basis for human society and a guarantee for national economic development.China is a major country in the exploitation of mineral resources and many achievements have been made in the mining industry, but in-depth research on the response of mining to rock mass still faces many professional bottlenecks. Therefore,it is necessary to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with other countries in mining if we want to make breakthroughs in studying the response of mining to rock mass.As a result, the translation of text in rock mass response becomes particularly important. In this translation practice, the translator chooses Chapters Two and Three from the book Rock Mass Response to Mining Activities-Inferring Large-Scale Rock Mass Failure as the source text, which is written by Australian writer Tadeusz Szwedzicki. These chapters mainly introduce the various factors that affect the rock mass response, and analyze the typical cases of mineral mining in Australia and its future development orientation.Guided by the Text Typology Theory, the translator analyzes translation techniques of English for Science and Technology(EST)text with plenty of examples. The report is divided into four chapters.Chapter One is a brief description of the task, which involves the introduction and features of the source text as well as the significance of the task.Chapter Two covers the implementation process of the task, which includes translation preparation, time schedule and quality control.Based on case analysis,Chapter Three discusses the translation techniques adopted to translate the source text respectively at lexical, syntactic and discourse levels.Chapter Four is the summary of this translation task, including the translator’s reflections and what needs to be improved.Through this translation practice, the translator has an in-depth understanding of translating EST text. When translating EST text, the translator can reasonably use the translation techniques such as amplification, division and conversion under the guidance of Text Typology Theory to ensure that the target text transmits the content of the source text objectively and accurately. It is hoped that this report can be used as reference for researchers in the mining field. |
