With the development of economic globalization,English has become an important tool for international communication.English is an important subject in China’s basic education.The professional quality of English teachers is directly related to the quality of English teaching in China.Therefore,English teachers must follow the path of professional development.In this context,this study adopted a variety of research methods such as literature method,case study method,interview method observation method and narrative research method,and selected six middle schools between the ages of 37 to 50 years old in different parts of Guangdong Province as the research object,excellent English teachers have conducted a rooted research on their professional development process,explored their professional development methods,sorted out the influencing factors of their professional development,and summarized their common outstanding characteristics.On this basis,put forward several points to promote the personal development of middle school English teachers,such as the guarantee function of the Teachers’ Development Center,the radiation role of the famous teacher studio,the provision of support and learning opportunities for teachers.The purpose of this study is to enable English teachers in similar situations to get some inspiration,compare their own personality characteristics,combine existing conditions and policies,plan their own professional development plans,and accelerate the pace of individual excellence.The study found that the personal professional development of middle school English teachers can be achieved through reflection study,subject research,training and learning and academic qualification improvement.The support of education administration and school,the support of family,the affirmation of others and personal achievement motivation,emotional input,and personal interest and personality are important factors that affect their development.Loving,learning,studying,and full of personality charm are the common personality characteristics of excellent teachers.Noble teacher ethics,solid professional knowledge,excellent professional ability and unique personal teaching style are the common professional characteristics of excellent teachers.This study enriches the theory of teacher professional development in some certain extent.It proposes some suggestions to promote the development of middle school English majors from the perspectives of education administration,schools and individuals,in order to convert more middle school English teachers into excellent teachers and improve the quality of middle school English teaching.
