A Report On The Simulated Ehglish-Chinese Simultaneous Interpreting Of British Columbia Tourism Industry Conference Presentation In 2019

This is a report on how to cope with tourism-related texts in English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting.The selected material is the 2019 British Columbia tourism industry annual summary meeting,titled "2019 British Columbia Tourism Industry Conference Presentation”,which mainly included the tourism bureau’s business program and annual summary.The main characteristic of this material is characterized by standard pronunciation of speakers but uneven speech rate and intensive information of some source languages.Diverse skills are used under the framework of the theory of interpretation and Effort Model.Interpretive theory emphasizes that deverbalization is crucial to target language,while Effort Model emphasizes that the interpreting process should allocate energy reasonably.For the semantic repetition in source language,omission is adopted to make the version concise.For the missing information,connectives,buffer words,generalizations,and accurate information in original language,addition is used to complete the semantic of target language.For attributive and adverbial postposition and clause in source language,waiting is used to make the interpreting complete and logical.The phenomenon that the source language is opposite to the Chinese expression habit,such as the positive or negative,active and passive of the original language,opposition is used to make the version smooth.In view of redundant qualifiers,morphologic changes and conjunctions of the target language,simplification is adopted to improve the quality of the translation.This report aims to provide interpreters with effective methods to deal with various conditions in simultaneous translation.And the version conforms to the usage of the target language and the translator can allocate energy reasonably so as to improve the quality of the version.By referring to these methods,interpreters are expected to make the target language conform to the usage habit of the target language and allocate their energies wisely so as to both the quality of their version.The shortcoming of simulated simultaneous interpreting is the imperfect version when the source language contains words and information beyond the scope of cognition.In the future,further research will be concentrated on such problems.
