On The Reconstruction Of Traditional Cultural Symbols In Xu Bing’s Installation Art

Xu Bing is regarded as one of the most influential contemporary artists in China.As the most important art form,installation art has a milestone significance.Xu Bing’ s installation art takes traditional cultural symbols as the starting point and foothold of creation,and has successfully established a unique language system of installation art in the global context.From the early works such as "book of heaven","ghosts beat the wall" and "new English" to the later works such as "the story behind" and "phoenix",all these works show the reconstruction of traditional cultural symbols.The process of reconstruction is the progressive development of xu Bing’s personal art.This form of creation is not only a correction and guidance to Chinese contemporary installation art,but also an examination and reflection on the past and future of Chinese traditional culture.Besides,it also reveals a metaphorical critical meaning based on the unique artistic language.Therefore,at present,it has become the most active and thoughtful art style with a sense of identity,which is of great avant-garde significance to Chinese contemporary installation artists.This paper is to contemporary Chinese artist Xu device with art and its traditional culture symbols typical works as the research object,explore his background of traditional culture symbols refactoring,form,artistic value,as well as the thinking and enlightenment,from installation art in reconstructing the traditional culture symbol of artistic thinking and thought foundation.Xu Bing’s installation art re-endowed the traditional culture with a new perspective of epoch-making significance,which was demonstrated through the interpretation of the works in the research process.This thesis is divided into six chapters and five parts.The introduction is the first part.The second part analyzes the historical background,life experience,influence of Chinese and western masters of art and the evolution of his themes and artistic styles from a macro perspective,and analyzes the origin of Xu Bing’ s installation art and traditional cultural symbols.The third part is the key chapter of this paper.This chapter carries out a specific case study on Xu Bing’ s installation art works with typical traditional cultural symbols,and analyzes how to reconstruct traditional cultural symbols one by one.The fourth part is the continuation and summary of the third part,expounding the artistic value of the reconstruction of traditional cultural symbols in Xu Bing’ s installation art,and interpreting and discussing from the perspective of semiotics,lofty aesthetics and society.The fifth part is a brief account of Xu Bing’s thoughts and inspirations on the reconstruction of traditional cultural symbols in his installation art.Xu Bing’s installation art creation career is like a continuous exploration.He keeps a keen insight into the environment in each period,so his works are deeply targeted and more thought-provoking.This kind of reflection comes from the process of Xu Bing’s reconstruction of traditional culture.At the same time,when the audience is faced with this kind of reconstruction,the brain and language system will "crash",which makes us face obstacles in interpreting works.However,this does not mean that Xu Bing is trying to create complex artistic semantics that are difficult,obscure and mysterious.On the contrary,his installation art actually shows a straightforward way to activate the tradition and reflect on it.At the same time,it also challenges people’s habitual thinking and stimulates people to open new cognitive methods.
