A Report On The Translation Of Ecological Compensation For China Agriculture （Excerpts）

This report intends to study how the author finishes her translation of Ecological Compensation for China Agriculture（《中国农业生态补偿研究》）under the guidance of Li Zhanxi’s Relevance-Adjustability Theoretic Approach（李占喜2007）in the course of preparing,translating and assessing.In the past decades,studies focus on the ecological destruction resulting from increasing population and devastating forests for arable land.To cope with this hot issue,Ecological Compensation is proposed.It means an economic system that encourages people to invest in ecological protection and increases the value of ecological capital through reasonable returns to ecological investors.In advanced areas,ecological compensation mechanism is only used in forestry and the sound compensation mechanism is not established in China.The original writer,Jin Jingshu writes the book,Ecological Compensation for China Agriculture trying to come up with suggestions which will be beneficial to China’s agriculture.This book gives readers a thorough introduction to previous researches on ecological compensation and China’s ecological destruction,makes the comparison between China’s compensation mechanism and advanced areas’,and offers many feasible suggestions to help improve the mechanism.Before translation,the author prepared many translation tools including paper and electronic dictionaries,terminologies dictionaries,online translation websites and Trados and so on.They enable the translator to understand the source text better.Then,the translator established her own term base through Lingo Sail Termbox and her own translation memory in Trados with which she improves the translator’s translationefficiency.In the translation process,the translator meets various difficulties,such as the accuracy of words,structural balance of coordinate clauses and the cohesion between sentences and sentences.Then,under the guidance of a new theoretic paradigm,the Relevance-Adjustability Theoretic Approach,the translator chooses two translation strategies: direct translation and note-adding to solve problems she meets.In this process,she makes the linguistic choices continuously to find the optimal relevance to the writer’s communicative intention.Based on this perspective,the author can revise and perfect her own translation.Finally,the report indicates that translators should understand terminologies correctly,clarify the differences between English and Chinese language and keep in mind their important role in cross-cultural communication.
