Chinese characters are the visual symbols and the carrier of information dissemination of Chinese civilization.They have been integrated into the daily life of Chinese people since ancient times and are an important bridge for people to communicate.In recent years,with the rapid development of the Internet,the existing Chinese character fonts have become difficult to meet the growing emotional and personalized needs of people.The ideal font design depends largely on designers’ deep understanding of font image and potential psychological communication between designers and audiences.Traditional font design mostly relies on the designer’s personal aesthetic experience and emotional experience.Due to the limitation and subjectivity of designers’ personal aesthetic and emotional experience,it is difficult to quickly develop fonts that can meet the audience’s image needs.This limitation is likely to bring unnecessary risks to enterprises.Basing on the background above,this paper intends to explore the emotional design method of Chinese fonts from the emotional design theory and the kansei engineering theory.The full text is divided into four chapters:In the first chapter,the background and significance of this research are discussed.The research status of emotional design and Chinese font design at home and abroad is summarized,and the research framework and innovative points of this topic are elaborated.In the second chapter,the development history of Chinese characters is sorted out,and the characteristics of Chinese characters of different dynasties in history and contemporary times are analyzed,which can provide reference for the design of contemporary Chinese fonts.In the third chapter,the emotional attributes of the four elements of Chinese characters,such as structure,strokes,graphics and structural attributes,are analyzed qualitatively,which lays the foundation for the quantitative research of emotional design in the follow-up.In the fourth chapter,the perceptual image of Chinese characters is predicted by the method of Kansei Engineering,and the relationship model between the attribute index of font structure and the perceptual image is obtained,which provides theoretical support for the emotional design of Chinese fonts.In the fifth chapter,the principles and methods of emotional design of Chinese fonts are summarized to guide the design practice.Through market research and analysis,the design of afternoon mood font library is determined as an example of design scheme.Based on the theory and method of previous chapters,the font library design is completed,the applicable fields are analyzed,and the validity and feasibility of the set of font are verified.
