Primary English teachers are the most concerned about the storytelling,it is one of the most important course type in primary English teaching,and it’s also a field which certainly worth studying.The researchers,both at home and abroad,fully convince that storytelling is beneficial to students’ development.However,through reexamining the reality of primary English teaching class herein,the study find that the current storytelling fail to get to the essence of the subject and go deep into the core of knowledge.Thus,based on the deep teaching theoretical foundation,this article trying to study the status quo and teaching strategies of the storytelling in grade six.Research approaches of literature survey,investigation and case study method will be used in this essay.This article regard deep teaching as a theoretical foundation,trying to study the storytelling in grade six from the theoretical and practical aspects.Specifically,including:The first part,it focused on the theory of storytelling in grade six from the perspective of deep teaching.According to the connotation and feature of deep teaching and storytelling,this article defined the implication of the storytelling in grade six from the perspective of deep teaching.That is,storytelling must transcend superficial knowledge teaching,teachers should guide students deeply participate in story learning,and teachers should deepen into the behind of the story context in order to find the culture,idea and way of the story.Let students experience four processes of understanding,experiencing,insight and internalization.Thereby,it can promote students’ persistent growth and personal development.The second part,investigating the practical teaching of storytelling in grade six based on the perspective of deep teaching.It mainly contains the analysis of the six graders’ English learning situation and the status quo of the storytelling in practice.This essay makes use of the test to analyze the six graders’ English learning situation through students’ score of the test,class sizes,students’ cognitive development and students’habits of English study.The results show that students’ English learning basis is above average.But students’ English study habits are not quite well.According to Piagetian theory of cognitive development stages,most of the student development of mind is close to the adults’ level.The analysis of the status quo of the storytelling in practice takes advantage of classroom observation scale.It divided into seven dimensions and twenty-two observation points,observing teachers and students’ behaviors accord with the descriptions of teachers and students’ behavior in the observation scale.The statistical analyses are based on the coincidence degree and the 5-point Likert Scale.The datum suggested that teachers haven’t been able to touch the essence of teaching and deepen into the core of story context.Teachers fail to recognize the value of storytelling which benefits students’ development.Students cannot profoundly understand the story content and deeply learn in story.On this basis,this article attempt to find the reasons from the perspective of deep teaching.That is the limitations of teachers’ability,the deficiency of students’standpoint,students are passive recipient,and the difficulty of teaching the deep meaning of the story,students’attention are easily distracted.The third part,based on the previous study,combined with case study in practical teaching,it concentrates on the strategies of practical storytelling in grade six from the perspective of deep teaching.Including five aspects,that is,getting to the essence of story context,diversified and developmental teaching aims,student-centered teaching process,formative teaching evaluation and profound teaching reflection.Especially,teachers need to enhance the teaching images,return to students’ original learning procedure,and enrich students’ emotional experience.Making sure the storytelling can benefit students’ development.At last,this essay summarizes and reflects the educational effects.The positive effect is that students’involvement evidently improved.Although there are several inevitable problems during the teaching process,the storytelling based on deep teaching is effective through the students’ comprehensive development.
