Nantang Qingyu was a zen monk of Songyuan Faction,LinJi School in the Yuan Dynasty.He was a disciple of Gulin Qingmao.The research of Qingyu’s lifetime and ideology have great significance to understand the Linji’s development in the Yuan Dynasty.This paper makes an in-depth and detailed study of Qingyu from three aspects:his life and writings,his ideas on zen and the origin and flow of dharma.Firstly,in the first chapter Life and Writings,the author makes a detailed study of three aspects which are learning process,teaching process and the writings.After studying and sorting out the life story of Qingyu by using the method of historical examination,the quthor holds that the event of Qingyu’s desire to retire from the temple to the south hall is actually a concrete embodiment of the dispute between the old and the new commandments in the Yuan Dynasty.In addition,this paper makes a careful comparison between the two versions of writings by the method of version comparison,and holds that the writing of the xuzang is closer to the original state of the Qingyu’s writing than that of the jiaxingzang.Next,in the second chapter Ideas on Zen,this paper makes a detailed investigation from three aspects:the ideological basis of Qingyu,the characteristics of zen thought and the comments on the ancients.In the term of the ideological basis,the paper argues that the origin of Qingyu needs to be investigated from the aspects of Huineng’s nanzong zen thougts,Buddhism’s thought of harmony,and the fusion of Confucianism and Buddhism.In the term of the characteristics of zen thought,the article thinks that although the zen thought of Qingyu originates from Huineng,it also has its own unique way of interpretation,and puts forward new statements such as "yourself is Buddha","zen is the father of teaching" and "daily life is the source of Buddha".In the term of ancient comments,this paper focuses on returning to the specific context of the text to investigate the Qingyu’s comment to ancients.It is believed that the main purpose of the Qingyu to comment on the ancients is not to criticize them,but to create a language environment to convey his thoughts.Finally,in the third chapter,the article examines three clues of the characters.The first clue is from Huqiu Shaolong to Songyuan Chongyue.In this clue,the author focuses on Ying’an Tanhua and found that although he is heir the lineage from Huqiu Shaolong,but his thought was deeper influenced by Dahui Zonggao,and on this basis that the Songyuan Faction’s thought was mainly inhert from Dahui Zonggao.The second clue is from Songyuan Chongyue to Nantang Qingyu.In this clue,the article especially focused on the criticism of Caodong’s style of persist in character by Hengchuan Rugong,and this attitude was also inhert bu Qingyu.The last clue are Qingyu’s successor and the perish of Songyuan Faction.In this clue,this paper mainly examines the related content of the disciples of Qingyu,and holds that SongyuanFaction’s lineage belows the disciples of Qingyu was didn’t continue,which has a lot to do with the character that the monk of this faction are not willing to promote buddhism.
