Daoist in Huizhou is an important part of the history of the development of Taoism in China, which has rich meaning and distinctive local features. For Huizhou, the Ming Dynasty was a time when its economy and culture thrived.Together with its unique natural and geographical environment,it provided fertile ground for the survival and development of Taoism in Huizhou.Another important reason for the prosperity of Taoism in Huizhou in the Ming Dynasty was the support of the rulers. Therefore,we could see Daoist’s development during the Ming Dynasty closely attached to imperial power from Taoism in Huizhou. The research in Taoism in Huizhou in the Ming Dynasty will not only enrich the content of regional Taoism history, but also help to grasp the development context and characteristics of Ming Taoism history. This article comprehensively uses the research methods of history, religion, and sociology to explain the development of Taoism in Huizhou in the Ming Dynasty, reveals the relationship between Huizhou Taoism and Huizhou local culture in the Ming Dynasty, and further summarizes the cultural characteristics of Huizhou Taoism in the Ming Dynasty. The main part of the paper is divided into four chapters, the main content of which is:The first chapter outlines Huizhou Taoism in historical period. This paper analyzes the development background of Huizhou Taoism from the aspects of Huizhou’s natural environment, humanistic factors and political conditions. At the same time,it also investigate the historical origin of Huizhou Taoism. The Daoist rulers of the Ming Dynasty promoted the development of Taoism in Huizhou. The second chapter summarizes the Daoist temples and figures of Huizhou Taoism in the Ming Dynasty.Qiyun Mountain has a long history of Taoism. The Ming Dynasty was its peak period of development. As one of the four famous mountains of Chinese Taoism,Qiyun Mountain is of great significance to Taoism in Huizhou.Meanwhile, the records of many Daoist figures and temples in the Ming Dynasty,to some extent, have demonstrated the tremendous development of Taoism in Huizhou in the Ming Dynasty. The third chapter discusses the interaction between Huizhou Taoism and Huizhou local culture based on the clan,Huizhou merchants, scholars and folk festivals in Huizhou local society.First of all, there are contradictions and reconciliations between Huizhou clan and Taoism;secondly,Taoism culture has a positive effect on the shaping of Huizhou merchants’ spirit;thirdly, the Huizhou scholar-bureaucrats play an important role in the dissemination and development of Taoism;finally,Huizhou folk festivals have many Daoist colors, from which we could see the characteristics of Huizhou’s folk belief system and the internal activities of the lower classes. The fourth chapter summarizes the cultural characteristics of Huizhou Taoism during the Ming Dynasty. On the one hand,in the Ming Dynasty,Huizhou Taoism tended to be secular and non-governmental.This was mainly reflected in the fact that there were many "fire priests" on the Qiyun Mountain,Daoist buildings like houses, and many Daoist deities in folk beliefs. On the other hand,Huizhou Taoism is highly inclusive, making the Daoist vitality tenacious and thus spreading widely in Huizhou.Based on this, the paper emphasizes that the ideological trends of the integration of Confucianism,Buddhism, and Taoism in the Ming Dynasty had a profound impact on Taoism.Huizhou Taoism in the Ming Dynasty conformed to the trend of the times and actively merged Confucianism and Buddhism to pursue its own improvement and development.
