With the lack of natural environment of English acquisition, the main way of students’ learning grammar is to memorize mechanically a lot of rules of grammar and sentence patterns. However, this is a dull and difficult experience, which easily causes them to lose their interest and confidence in grammar learning. And Self-reference Effect shows that if people associate learning materials with themselves, their understanding and memorizing of the materials will be improved.Meanwhile,as junior school students’ self-awareness is rapidly developing, teaching English grammar by means of Self-reference Effect may effectively promote junior school students’ knowledge of English grammar. In order to explore the feasibility of applying the Self-reference Effect to English grammar teaching in junior middle schools, the author randomly selects one class as the experimental class and the other as the comparison class from the two first-grade classes which I am teaching. The grammar test before the experiment finds that there is no significant difference between these two classes in the grammatical level. Also, the survey result before the experiment shows that the students’ interest, attitude and their master of grammar learning method in the two classes are almost the same. And then the author uses the grammar teaching method based on Self-reference Effect in the experimental class, and traditional PPP grammar teaching method in the comparison class. Finally, the experimental results show that English grammar teaching method based on the Self-reference Effect can significantly improve junior school students’grammar learning interest, attitude and their grammar learning method, and then significantly improve their grammar level.
