The Transmutation Of The Blue-and-green Landscape Painting In Tang And Song Dynasties

The blue-and-green landscape painting is an important part of Chinese traditional art.It spouts as early as Wei and Jin Dynasties,develops in Sui Dynasty,flourishes in Tang Dynasty,And it plays a vital role in Tang’s landscape painting.However,from the time of the Five Dynasties,the ink-and-wash painting springs up.Most artists favor the ink-and-wash painting,and as more and more ink-and-wash paintings appear,the blue-and-green paintings become less important.It is not until Song Dynasty,which advocates the returning to the ancient and creatively follows the styles of Li Sixun and Li Zhaodao in Tang Dynasty,that the blue-and-green painting gets revived.The two kinds of paintings thus blend harmoniously with each other.Furthermore,a little blue-and-green painting in quietly elegance comes into being,and it influences deeply in the development of later blue-and-green landscape paintings.In recently years,there are more and more researches on the blue-and-green landscape painting,which offers us a better basis for analyzing it.But according to the existing researches,the analysis on the transmutation of the blue-and-green landscape painting is not sufficient enough,so it is still worthy to pay attention to.This thesis lays emphasis on Tang and Song’s typical artists:Li Sixun,Li Zhaodao and Zhao Boju,Zhao Bosu.By analyzing on their creative activities and works,the thesis points out the fact that the blue-and-green landscape painting transforms from Tang’s gorgeously exquisiteness to Song’s elegantly freshness,and from powerful momentum to poetic sentiment.As with the reason of this transformation,the thesis explains that on one hand,it is necessary for the development and creation of art,and on the other hand,it is closely related with the change of painting materials,the transformation of the concept on beauty throughout time,social politics,economy and culture etc.On the whole,after Tang and Song Dynasty,the blue-and-green landscape painting gets deeply influenced by the ink-and-wash painting.The traditional exquisite technique and garish color are not popular any more.Nevertheless,it doesn’t totally vanish,but continues to stand and develop in all kinds of styles in the forest of landscape paintings.
