Because of the popularity of Chinese,the number of people who are learning Chinese overseas is progressively increasing.This phenomenon is not only promoting an opportunity for Chinese teaching but also giving great challenges to Chinese teaching.How to make students master idiomatic language is the most basic problem to the course of Chinese as a foreign language teaching.The diversity and flexibility of Chinese are the most difficult part,and it is easy to dispel the enthusiasm of the students for learning Chinese.Chinese grammar,complex structure,and various forms also set up a barrier to students.Lexical chunk theory just can solve the problems.The chunk theory is a linguistic theory proposed by Nattinger and De Carrico in 1990s,who regard lexical phrases as an ideal unit of language teaching.We can also use this theory in the lessons of Chinese by classification of the Chinese in the form of lexical chunks to make the class become more concise and efficient.Based on the research of Lexical Chunk Theory collation and research,and understanding the basic meaning of Lexical Chunk Theory,we can combine the Lexical Chunk Theory and Chinese comprehensive course.According to the basic requirements of Chunk Theory,we can make a specific teaching design,and give the specific teaching suggestions.We can get a conclusion that the chunk theory applied to foreign language teaching is helpful to improve the efficiency of Chinese teaching,and cultivate students’ sense of language and language application ability.This thesis is divided into five parts,the first part is the introduction,including the significance and value of the topic,the main methods and content,as well as the theory of Lexical Chunks at home and abroad.The second part is the application of Lexical Chunk Theory and foreign language teaching.Through the analysis and comparison of the Chunk Theory and the significance of TCSOL,we can find out their commonness,and explain the feasibility of Chunk Theory applied to foreign language teaching.The third part is the teaching design of intermediate Chinese comprehensive course under the theory of Lexical Chunks.Under the guidance of the theory,this thesis has expounded teaching needs,content,object,target,strategy,evaluation to find the feasibility study of Chunk Theory applied to foreign language teaching.The fourth part is the specific teaching design under the theory of Lexical Chunks,with the example of "don’t worry too much about making money".The fifth part is the conclusion,this thesis describes the main research results and prospects for future teaching,the conclusion in the fifth part is: the chunk theory applied to foreign language teaching is helpful to improve the efficiency of classroom teaching,to cultivate students’ sense of language and the ability in application of language.The innovation of this paper is that we combined the Lexical Chunks Theory with the comprehensive course of TCOSL.According to the basic requirements of Lexical Chunk Theory,this thesis designed a specific course of intermediate Chinese comprehensive course.The theory should be applied in language teaching and improving students’ the efficiency and interest of learning.
