Applications Of Syntactic Linearity In Simultaneous Interpreting Under Gile’s Effort Model

This thesis is based on Gile’s effort model and the principle of syntactic linearity.It compares and analyzes the source speech and the target speech of the press conference on institutional reform in 2013 so as to demonstrate the applications and effects of syntactic linearity skills.Through analysis,this thesis proves that the application of syntactic linearity is a must in Chinese-English simultaneous interpreting.Among all the syntactic linearity skills,"chucking" is a basic one."Chucking",with the combination of other five skills-"adding","deleting","transferring the part of speech","summarizing" and"shifting",can effectively help to reduce the pressures faced by an interpreter.With the analysis,this thesis provides more detailed examples on the applications of syntactic linearity skills in the real Chinese-English simultaneous interpreting.
