| The American writer Michael Cunningham created a new book The Hours based on Mrs.Dalloway which was written by British writer Virginia Woolf.In term of the theme,plot,image or writing skill,there are close relationship of intertextuality between the two novels.Mrs.Dalloway and The Hours as the research object,this thesis begins with the study of intertextuality and ends up with the exploration to finding out the self between the texts.First of all,this thesis discusses the relationship of intertextuality on literary text of the two novels;Secondly,this thesis combines the two novels with their social and historical background so as to expound the social monitor and the escape of the supervised;Thirdly,in order to discuss the patient’s self variation,the thesis is based on Foucault’s theory of discipline power;Last but not the least,this thesis discusses how Michael Cunningham reconstructs the self through analyzing the aesthetic implication of meta-novel.This thesis utilized four chapters to show the communication without the limitation of space and time between Michael Cunningham and Virginia Woolf. |
