A Hybrid Method For Measuring The Degree Of Cervical Range Of Motion Based On Depth Camera And Virtual Reality Device

Abstract/Summary:
The cervical spine is an important part of the head,and all the movements of the head are the result of the cervical spine motion coupling.With the development of society,people’s indoor working time increases,and prolonged sitting has become a common reason for the occurrence of cervical spondylosis.Recently,cervical spondylosis patients have tended to be younger.Clinical medicine mainly depends on the cervical range of motion to diagnose cervical spine conditions.At present,taking X-rays in medical imageology has become mainstream that evaluates the cervical spine motion in clinical medicine.A convenient measurement method of cervical spine motion scope for doctors and patients plays a vital role in doctors’ judgment of the extent of disease,preoperative and postoperative evaluation,and patient rehabilitation.In recent years,virtual reality(VR)equipment has gradually been developed and widely used in various fields.Its powerful and accurate positioning ability can be used to simulate realistic scenes.This paper presents a method,which uses a depth camera and VR device,for measuring the range of cervical spine motion scope.With the positioning ability of the VR device,the degree of motion of the cervical spine can be measured.At the same time,the depth camera is used to distinguish the critical range of motion in the cervical spine to meet the clinician’s needs.Finally,with the cooperation of cervical clinicians,we test the measurement method and compare it with the traditional measurement method of cervical spine motion scope.The main work of this paper are as follows:Firstly,we need to collect some images of the standard cervical spine state from the normal people through the depth camara,storing the depth messages and the color messages.And we need to align the depth messages to the color messages,filtering the depth messages meanwhile retaining the depth data of the outline of the upper body.Next,we can cut the depth images gained in the last move according to Delaunay triangle,and align and balance the triangle cut covered images,which can help us to get the depth messages of the standard average cervical spine standard state.In that case,it can be viewed as the standard cervical spine state.Then,we need to collect the depth messages from the subjects and we are going to use these shifts of the depth messages as the point cloud messages of the original cervical range of motion state meanwhile we can use the above information to align the standard cervical range of motion state and initial cervical state in order to obtain the differential angle between the present measured state with the standard measured state as the differential angle of the original stardard cervical state.Lastly,we can utilize the VR device to measure the 3 groups if cervical movements individually based on the data of the differential angle of the original cervical,where we can attain the real-time rotation speed and angle when the participant moves.Besides,we have to measure the same subject through the traditional medical measurement method,and calculate the coordinance of the inner-groups and the inter-groups,hence to prove the reliability of the method of measuring the cervical spine proposed in this essay.The main innovation points of this essay are as follows:(1)In this thesis,it utilizes depth camara to ensure the standard cervical movement state,and introduces this standard state to increase more reliability of using VR device to measure the cervical movement.(2)In this thesis,it proposes a method which is based on mixing the usages of the depth camara with the VR device to measure the cervical range of motion.Through this method,it can provide Kinematics characteristic data and periodically and continuously angle changes,where,in a creative way,recording the whole process of the cervical movement thoroughly besides obtaining the motor characteristics of the activity of the cervical and analyzing the clinic and coordinance of partial kinematics characteristic.
