Abstract/Summary:
Objective:To investigates the status quo of self-esteem,psychological flexibility and mental health of medical students and explores the relationship between them,tests the effect of admission commitment group psychological counseling on improving the self-esteem level of medical students,and provides a reference for expanding the application field of admission commitment therapy and enriching the mental health education means of medical students.Methods:From September to December 2019,a cluster random sampling method was used to investigate the self-esteem,psychological flexibility and mental health status of 788 medical students in a medical college using the Self-Esteem Scale,Symptom Checklist,Acceptance and Action Questionnaire,and Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire-Fusion.Subsequently,40 medical students with low self-esteem who met the conditions were screened and randomly divided into the experimental control group,with20 students in each group.The subjects in the experimental group received120 minutes of group counseling based on acceptance and commitment therapy once a week for 8 weeks,and the subjects in the control group did not receive counseling on admission commitment therapy-related contents during the study period and only received normal mental health education in the school.The subjects in the two groups were again assessed using the Self-Esteem Scale,Symptom Checklist,Acceptance and Action Questionnaire,and Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire-Fusion after the intervention.Results:(1)There were significant differences in self-esteem,psychological flexibility and mental health between the 788 medical students surveyed in terms of gender(P < 0.05),and there were significant differences in the scores of self-esteem and mental health in different grades(P < 0.05);there was a positive correlation between self-esteem,psychological flexibility,and mental health,and self-esteem and psychological flexibility had a positive impact on mental health.(2)After 8 times of group counseling,the self-esteem,psychological flexibility and mental health level in the test group were significantly higher than those before the intervention,and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05);the self-esteem,psychological flexibility and mental health level in the control group were not significantly different before and after the intervention(P > 0.05).Conclusion:(1)The self-esteem and mental health level of medical students are significantly different in gender and grade.In the process of mental health education,we should avoid the "one-size-fits-all" way,carry out targeted work at different time points according to the psychological characteristics of different groups,and take into account the improvement of self-esteem and psychological flexibility.(2)Acceptance and commitment therapy combined with group psychological counseling has a positive effect on improving the self-esteem level of medical students,and has certain value of use and promotion in the mental health education of medical students.
