| [Objectives]Eating disorders(EDs)are characterized by persistent eating-related behaviors, and excessive attention to food, weight and body shape. It is a type of mental disorder that is chronic and refractory.Early detection and intervention can improve the progno sis of eating disorders effectively.Until now there is no short, reliable and effective screening tool for eating disorders in China, and the SCOFF questionnai re which is simple and memorable is currently the main international tool for screening of eating disorders. So this study intends to introduce the SCOFF questionnaire into China’s mainland, and then to examine the validity and reliability of the SCOFF questionnaire among college students.Aiming to provide an effective screening tool for eating disorders in China’s mainland. And then using the SCOFF questionnaire for screening eating disorders among college students.[Methods]This study consists of two parts.1.The analysis of reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the SCOFF questionnaire:we introduce the SCOFF questionnaire into China’s mainland, and have the Chinese version of the SCOFF questionnaire by translation and back-translation.There are 953 students from two universities in Shanghai for the analysis of reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the SCOFF questionnaire. All of them had the SCOFF questionnaire and eating disorder examination questionnaire 6.0(EDE-Q6.0).456 students from one college were retested with two weeks interval. We collect the data to analyze the internal consistency,test-retest reliability, parallel validity, discriminant validity and empirical validity.471 students had the clinical interview. After the clinical interview,we evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of the SCOFF questionnaire, and determine the cut-off point of the Chinese version of the SCOFF questionnaire.2.Survey on eating disorders among college freshmen by the SCOFF questionnaire:screening of eating disorders among 5024 freshmen from one university by the SCOFF questionn aire.[Results]1.Validity and reliability of the Chinese version SCOFF questionnaire in college students:(1)The Cronbachαcoefficient of the SCOFF questionnaire(Chinese version)in the total sample, males and females were 0.44,0.44 and 0.42 respectively. With two weeks interval,In the test–retest reliability the SCOFF questionnaire acquired an ICC in the total sample, males and females of 0.76,0.75 and 0.75 respectively.(2)The correlation coefficient between the SCOFF questionnaire and EDE-Q6.0 in the total sample, males and females were 0.54,0.48 and 0.53 respectively(P<0.01).The total scores of the SCOFF questionnaire were significantly different between the two groups which divided by the total score of EDE-Q6.0(Z=-13.41,P<0.001).Among the subjects interviewed by MINI,there was a significant difference in the total score of the SCOFF questionnaire between the eating disorder group and the healthy control group(Z=-3.88,P<0.001).(3)Among the students who had the MINI interviews,9 were diagnosed with eating disorders, including 3 cases of anorexia nervosa and 6 cases of bulimia nervosa. One case of bulimia nervosa was male and all the others were female. The area under the ROC curve of the SCOFF questionnaire subjects was AUC=0.86,and with a cut-off point of two or more positive answers, sensibility and specificity levels were 88.9%and 66.2%,respectively.2.Screening of eating disorders among college students by the SCOFF questionnaire:(1)Of the 5024 university freshmen,1536 had a tendency of eating disorders screened by the SCOFF questionnaire. The screening-detected eating disorder rate in the total sample, males and females were 30.6%,19.7%and 35.5%,respectively.Through chi-square test, the screening-detected eating disorder rate is higher among females than males(X~2=127.53,P<0.001).(2)The highest screening-detected eating disorder rate among institutes is 38.8%in the Institute of Education, the lowest is 21.8%in the Institute of Architecture&Engineering. And the highest rates of eating disorders among males and females are Institute of Chinese and Institute of Physical Education,respectively.[Conclusions](1)The SCOFF questionnaire(Chinese version)has good reliability and validity among college students. When the cut-off point is two or more,it can detect the high-risk eating disorders people. It will be useful for detecting potential eating disorders in China’s mainland.(2)Of the 5024 university freshmen, the screening-detected eating disorder rate in the total sample was 30.6%,the screening-detected eating disorder rate among females is significantly higher than that of males(35.5%and 19.7%respectively).We should pay more attention to the potential eating behavior problem among college students. |
