Background and Objectives:Alcohol is one of the most popular addictive substances in the world and one of the most important factors threatening human health. In 2016,the world health organization estimated that2.4 billion people worldwide drank alcohol, which is 33 percent of the world’s population.Worldwide, alcohol use is responsible for more than 3 million deaths,or 5 percent of the world’s total.Alcohol use accounts for more than 5 percent of the global disease burden.Alcohol use disorder is one of the most common mental disorders in the world.According to the world health organization statistics in 2016,8.6 percent of men and 1.7 percent of women worldwide have alcohol use disorder. The drinking problem of Chinese college students is also very serious.Even the medical students have a high rate of drinking(44.59%),and the rate of alcohol use disorder is as high as8.2%.There are no reports on drinking among nursing students in China, but the results from other countries are not encouraging.US studies show that more than 80% of nursing students drink alcohol, and 25% of them are alcohol use disorder patients.Studies in Spain show that the vast majority of nursing students drink. As female nursing students are more vulnerable to the health effects of alcohol use,it is necessary to investigate Chinese nursing students’ situation about alcohol and alcohol use disorders, and provide psychological intervention for alcohol use disorders in nursing students. In this study we chose nursing students from 3 medical universities in Jiangsu province, aim to analyze the influencing factors of drinking behavior of nursing students, and provide specific solutions to prevent alcohol use disorder for nursing students. Methods:Three representative medical universities in Jiangsu province were randomly selected according to their geographical and socio-economic conditions.A cluster sample of nursing students from these schools was conducted.Through the questionnaire, general demographic characteristics, family status, surrounding environment, stress, personality,Alcohol consumption attitudes to the subjects were collected.Through the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test,(AUDIT scale),the situations of alcohol consumption and alcohol use disorders were collected.Double entry method is adopted to ensure the accuracy of data entry. In terms of statistical methods,chi-square test and binary logistic regression model were used to analyze the factors of drinking among students, and the factors affecting alcohol use disorders among nursing students were analyzed by single factor analysis through rank sum test. Results:A total of 1,160 questionnaires were issued and 1,077 were recovered, with a recovery rate of92.8%.There were 110 males(10.2%),967 females(89.8%),and the average age is 18.5±1.25.360 drinkers were found, and the drinking rate was 33.4%.55 of them are male drinkers and305 are female drinkers, with drinking rate 50% and 31.5,respectively.The number of drinking disorders was 35,and the rate of alcohol use disorders was 3.2%.12 of them are men and 23 are female, with the rate of alcohol use disorder at 10.9% and 2.4%,respectively.To analyze the influence factors of nursing students drinking, single factor chi-square analysis of the factors are: gender, household type, father’s education degree, family per capita income, monthly cost of living, whether family members drinking, whether friends drinking, parents’ attitude to drinking, attitude towards necessity of drinking alcohol in person, learning stress, emotional stress and anxiety depression.According to the statistics of the ordered multiclassification Logistic regression model, the risk factors for nursing major students to drink alcohol were: higher family monthly income(OR=1.694-2.757),peer drinking(OR=2.46-5.006),parents not against drinking alcohol(OR=2.070-2.705),not denying the necessity of drinking alcohol in person(OR=1.805-4.361)and emotional stress(OR=1.677-2.709).The influencing factors of alcohol use disorder in nursing students were analyzed by single factor analysis. The factors obtained by the single-factor rank sum test were as follows: sex for male, household type, the father’s education level, the higher family income, monthly cost of living, family drinking, drinking friends, parents not opposed to drinking, not denying the necessity of drinking alcohol in person, learning stress and emotional stress. Conclusion:The drinking rate of male nursing students is 50%,and is 31.5% for female, which leads men drinkers more than female. It was about the same as the average for medical college students and lower than the national college students average for alcohol consumption. The prevalence of alcohol use disorders was 3.2 percent, mainly due to peer drinking environment, family drinking environment and stressful situations.Overall, nursing students have a lower rate of alcohol consumption and a lower rate of alcohol use disorders, but measures should be taken to promote nursing students to establish a healthy lifestyle.
