Research On The Media Framework Construction Of Vaccine Safety Incidents In China

Public health emergencies are closely related to public health and life safety.Among the public health emergencies that have occurred in China in recent years,vaccine related risk events emerge in endlessly.Due to their unpredictable and highly concerned characteristics,once they occur,it is easy to cause group anxiety and panic.However,the risk of modern society is not a concrete and sensible objective existence,but a product of media construction.The mass media tries to "realize" the risk by means of social recognition,highlighting the threat attached to the risk that the public can not directly perceive.The presentation and construction of vaccine risk issues by mainstream media is directly related to public cognition,public opinion and even the trust of the whole society,so as to promote the reform of the system and the development of society.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to explore how the media construct the framework of vaccine safety incidents from the perspective of risk communication.Based on the risk communication theory and framework theory,this study selected People’s Daily,Southern Metropolis Daily and Health Daily as the research objects,representing the Party Committee organ newspaper,metropolis daily and industry newspaper respectively.Taking the vaccine safety events with national influence from 2010 to 2020 as the research samples,this study investigated the framework construction of the media presentation of vaccine safety events in the past decade.This study attempts to explore the reasons that affect the presentation of the reporting framework under the influence of politics,society and audience,and then puts forward effective risk communication strategies and suggestions based on the perspective of risk communication.The study is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction,which briefly describes the research background and significance,related literature review,related theory and concept definition,research ideas and research methods,and expounds the research design of the paper,including the research object,sample selection and research category construction.In the second and third parts,the paper makes a frame analysis of the samples of People’s Daily,Southern Metropolis Daily and Health Daily,mainly from six aspects:the number of reports,the type of reports,the theme of reports,the source of information,the tone of reports and the frame of reports,and discusses the relationship between the media attribute and the frame construction,the dominant frame and the secondary frame.The fourth part describes the migration path and influencing factors of media framework in each development stage of vaccine safety incidents,and shows the interactive relationship between media presentation and social environment.The fifth part discusses the basic logic of risk communication of vaccine safety incidents in China,and provides feasible suggestions for the risk communication of mainstream media.According to the research findings,this study puts forward several countermeasures and suggestion:as a risk warning,the media should strengthen social early warning,improve the ability of insight into potential risks,and guide the audience to respond rationally;as a risk supervisor,the media should strengthen risk criticism and integrate positive publicity with strengthening public opinion supervision;as a risk communicator,the media should strengthen risk communication,improve the effect of risk information dissemination and promote an effective dialogue mode of "democratic paradigm".
