| ObjectiveStiff neck is a common clinical diseases.Traditional Chinese medicine is effective for stiff neck, which has been confirmed by years of clinical practices. For this study,Patients who suffered from stiff neck was the observation objects.By comparing the clinical efficacy of PENG’s tendon-separating massage manipulations and routine massage therapy in the treatment of stiff neck, the study was purposed to not only confirm the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine but also provide some clinical bases for PENG’s tendon-separating massage manipulations in treating stiff neck, and find a safer and more effective method for the treatment of stiff neck at the end.MethodsAccording to the clinical trial principle of randomized control, sixty patients who suffered from stiff neck were randomly divided into PENG’s tendon-separating massage manipulations group and routine massage therapy group, with 30 cases in each group. The patients in PENG’s tendon-separating massage manipulations group were relaxed the neck and shoulders with palm-kneading,fist-pushing and fist-rolling firstly.Secondly, supporting thumb-pushing with flat, shallow, middle and deep levels was applied in turn,to release the nodules in skin, fascia, muscle and periosteum progressively.Last but not least, the small thenar rubbing was used for warming meridian and relieving pain. The patients in routine massage therapy group were treated by the methods which was from "Tuina Therapeutics".The two groups were treated for 20 minutes each time, once a day,3 times for one course of treatment, and the two groups were treated for a total of one course of treatment. Before and after the treatment, the scores of Northwick Park neck pain scale(NPQ),the pain scores of visual analogue scale(VAS),and cervical mobility in the two groups were examined. And after treatment, the clinical efficacy in the two groups was evaluated.Results1.There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups of the base data such as age, gender and course of disease,as well as NPQ scores,VAS pain scores and cervical mobility scores before treatment(P>0.05),so that the two groups were comparable.2.After one course of the treatment, among the 30 patients in PENG’s tendon-separating massage manipulations group,13 cases were cured,16 cases were improved, and 1 case was not getting better. The total effective rate was 96.7%(29/30).Among the 30 patients in routine massage therapy group,5 cases were cured,22 cases were improved, and 3 cases were not getting better. The total effective rate was 90%(27/30).After statistical analysis, the intergroup comparison showed that the clinical efficacy in PENG’s tendon-separating massage manipulations group was superior to that in routine massage therapy group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).3.After treatment, the NPQ scores,VAS pain scores and cervical mobility scores in the two groups were obviously decreased in comparison with those before treatment(P<0.05),and the decrease of the NPQ scores,VAS pain scores and cervical mobility scores in PENG’s tendon-separating massage manipulations group was superior to that in routine massage therapy group, the difference being statistically significant(P<0.05).The difference between the NPQ score,VAS score and cervical spine mobility score in the two groups before and after treatment was statistically significant(P<0.05).It showed that PENG’s tendon-separating massage manipulations and routine massage therapy were effective in treating stiff neck, both of them could improve the condition of neck pain, dysfunction and cervical mobility of patients with stiff neck, but the efficacy of PENG’s tendon-separating massage manipulations was better.4.In the course of the study,no serious adverse reactions and patient shedding occurred, indicating that the safety of the study is worthy of recognition.ConclusionPENG’s tendon-separating massage manipulations mainly uses supporting thumb-pushing to separate the diseased meridians and tendons of the neck, which could relax muscles, increase blood flow, loosen adhesions and reduce inflammation exudation effectively,so as to relieve the neck pain and disfunction of stiff neck.Comparing with other therapies,PENG’s tendon-separating massage manipulations emphasizes the gradual penetration of massage power, which has distinctive advantages such as high safety, significant efficacy, and high patient compliance. It can significantly improve the condition of neck pain, dysfunction and cervical mobility of patients with stiff neck, which is worthy of promotion and reference in clinical practice. |
