Objective: To investigate the preventive effect of metformin in patients with type 2 diabetes who previously had colorectal adenomas resected by endoscopy. Methods: This study was a retrospective study.A total of 76 patients with type 2 diabetes who previously had colorectal adenomas resected by endoscopy between January 1,2012 and July 1,2019 were included, including 37 metformin users and 39 non-metformin users. To analyze the difference in the recurrence of colorectal adenoma among different drug users. Results: Of the 37 patients in the metformin user group,8 patients relapsed, and the recurrence rate was 21.6%.In the non-metformin user group, the recurrence rate was 46.2%.The difference was statistically significant(X~2=5.077,P =0.024,OR=0.322 95%CI:0.118-0.879).After adjusting the logistic regression model for smoking, histological type, adenoma location, and average follow-up time, compared with non-metformin users, the risk of recurrence after colorectal adenoma resection was lower in metformin users(OR=0.136 95%CI: 0.030-0.610,P =0.009).Conclusion: In patients with type 2 diabetes, metformin may have the effect of preventing the recurrence of colorectal adenomas after resection, and metformin has the potential of chemopreventing the recurrence of colorectal adenomas...
