Research On The Public Space Of The Settlement In Jiangnan Water Network Area Based On Geographical And Cultural Characteristics

There are much important forefathers’ wisdom in the traditional settlement,including the way of responding to natural conditions,rich and changeable space forms,distinctive regional decoration features,and passing on the connotation of cultural context.As the core space of the settlement,public space carries various kinds of communication activities of the people,which is the most abundant and active part of the overall spatial system of villages and towns,and also the place where the regional context connotation is concentrated.From the macro development process,the historical settlement of Jiangnan water network area has experienced the changes of years.It can also feel the impact of the development of the times on it while retaining a lot of traditional traces.And it is still in a process of continuous updating and improving gradual development,which is spontaneous and ecological.It is very different from the mechanization construction way of modern city pursuing speed.In the micro form,the formation of the public space form of settlements is influenced by the natural environment and the residents’ usage habits.The features of the public space can also reflect the local culture and tradition,which is also the pursuit of modern architectural design.At the same time,the public space of traditional settlements is more suitable for people’s living habits and psychological needs,which reflects a strong humanistic concern.Overall,the design of modern public space can extract a lot of useful historical experience from the traditional settlements.This paper hopes to analyze the formation process and the form of public space in the settlement of water network area from the perspective of geography and cultural context: combing and summarizing the natural geographical environment,social political economy and ideological and cultural characteristics of Jiangnan water network area which affect the formation of public space,and deeply study the system and type of public space and the relationship with public life.With combining geography and context,this paper discusses the spatial connotation,extracts typical public space layout mode and spatial form characteristics,and analyzes and compares it with the relevant theories of modern public space design and modern design mode,hoping to play a certain enlightening role in the design of modern public space and public building.
