The Research Of Communication Space Design In Caring Facilities For Seniors

In recent years,the caring facilities in China have become more and more diversified,from home-based caring to a complex model combining residence,community and institutional caring.With the deepening of aging and the rapid development of social and economic level,a large number of caring facilities for elders have been built in China in recent years.For the present,the design of many caring facilities focuses on building barrierfree physical environment,while ignoring the design of communication space among the elderly and between the elderly and other people in the facilities.In view of this,the author chooses the interior communication space in caring facilities as the research subject.This dissertation covers the on-site investigation of three domestic caring facilities for elders.From the investigations,the elders are found to have a very strong demand for communication and are especially eager to communicate with different groups of people in order to enrich their social ties.However,there are some deficiencies in the design of communication space in the three caring facilities.Therefore,starting from the physical,mental and behavioral characteristics of the elders,this dissertation studies the communication behaviors between the elderly and other groups in the caring facilities,and extract the needs of the elderly for communication space according to these behaviors.In view of these needs,this dissertation includes two aspects: spatial layout design and spatial node design,and finally put forward some design strategies that are conducive to promoting the interaction of the elderly: at the level of spatial layout design,the author puts forward the strategies of enhancing accessibility of spatial layout and sharing resources of caring facilities;At the level of spatial node design,this paper puts forward strategies to promote communication in six types of communication spaces,namely,entrance square and entrance hall,public activity room,public dining room,nursing station,living corridor and elderly living room.In my graduation project,I try to apply the research results by taking the design practice of senior apartment and senior activity center in Zunyi Kangyang community as an example.While studying the communication behavior between the elders,this dissertation also pays attention to the communication behavior between the elderly and other groups in the caring facilities,and have some innovations in the research perspective and content.I hope this dissertation can provide effective supplements to the current research on the communication space in caring facilities for elders.
