Buckling-restrained steel plate shear wall(BRPSPW),developed from steel plate shear wall,is a kind of lateral force-resisting member which consists of an inner steel plate,out-of-plane constraint components and boundary members.BRSPSW has the advantages of high load-carrying capacity, large lateral stiffness and good energy consumption ability. The overall buckling deformation of inner steel plate is restricted by out-of-plane constraint components which mitigates the pinching phenomenon and provides stable hysteretic behavior.Concrete plate is usually adapted and attached to both sides of inner steel plate as out-of-plane constraint component in structures. But it is difficult to transport and install the heavy reinforced concrete cover panels when the span and storey height of buildings are large. To solve this problem, division of cover plate is allowed while taking the adverse effect into consideration according to related specification in China. However, the hysteretic behavior of BRSPSW with divided cover plates remains unclear and there is no design method of divided cover plate which limits its application. The main works are listed as follows:(1)Two BRSPSW specimens with different kinds of divided cover plates were conducted into experiment under cyclic load. The experimental phenomenon and hysteretic behavior, including load-carrying capacity, initial stiffness and energy consumption ability, were studied.By comparing the test results with former results of SPSW and BRSPSW,the interaction between inner steel plate and divided cover plates was investigated.(2)Finite element models of BRSPSW with divided cover plates were established using software ABAQUS to study the hysteretic behavior in detail, whose accuracy was validated by the test results. The mechanism of BRSPSW was revealed by analyzing the stress development progress of a typical model.Parametrical analysis of height-tothickness ratio,span-to-height ratio, division mode and separating slit width of cover plate on the influence of BRSPSW was conducted. The results indicated that the energy dissipation efficiency of BRSPSW decreased slightly with the increase of span-to-height ratio and the decrease of height-to-thickness ratio. The divided cover plates did not significantly reduce the load-carrying capacity and energy consumption ability of BRSPSW while the rigidity of cover plate was sufficient and the separating slit width was small.(3)The mechanical behavior of reinforced concrete cover panels in BRSPSW was studied using finite element method.A simplified analysis model was proposed and the minimum thickness of divided cover plate was deduced according to the flexural capacity and stiffness requirement. The influence of arrangement pattern of connecting bolts on the hysteretic performance of BRSPSW was also investigated and the recommended bolt distance was proposed. The results showed that increasing the flexural rigidity of cover plates and reducing the distance of bolt within a certain range can improve the bearing capacity and energy dissipation ability of BRSPSW with divided cover panels.
