The rapid development of the automobile industry has brought convenience to China’s public transport, but also brought more serious challenges to road safety.Traffic accident data shows that smalloverlap impact account for 22.8% of frontal crashes, and that occupant injury and fatality rates are higher in actual traffic accidents in China.Traffic accident investigations have shown that Chinese and American occupants have different risks of injury in smalloverlap impact, the risk of AIS3+ head injury for Chinese occupants are more than twice that of US occupants. In order to reduce the body injury of Chinese occupants under smalloverlap impact,it is necessary to carry out a smalloverlap impact injury study for Chinese occupants’ body characteristics. However, the existing occupant injury assessment tools are most based on European and American body characteristics, and the large difference in physical signs between Chinese and American occupants results in the existing occupant injury assessment tools not being able to characterise the actual injury situation of Chinese occupants in smalloverlap impact.Based on the lack of injury evaluation tools for Chinese occupants, this research will first develop a human finite element model for Chinese occupants, and then injury analysis and protection strategies research for Chinese occupants in smalloverlap impact will be conducted based on this model. In order to improve the modeling efficiency of human models, this paper proposes an adaptive mesh deformation method to achieve rapid development of Chinese occupant finite element model. In order to study the impact injury of Chinese occupants in smalloverlap impact, this research respectively constructs smalloverlap impact simulation for Chinese occupant model and THUMS model.and then the analysis of Chinese occupants body injury in the smalloverlap impact simulation is conducnted, the differences of body injury between Chinese and THUMS occupant model is compared in detail. In order to reduce the risk of Chinese occupants injury in smalloverlap, this research analyses the correlation between the restraint system variables and human injury to Chinese occupants, and develops an occupant restraint system that matches the parameters of Chinese occupants in smalloverlap crashes with the objective of minimising the overall human injury risk. The results show that the adaptive mesh transformation method proposed in this paper can effectively improve the efficiency of the mesh morphing, and the effectiveness of the developed model is verified by simulating the local rigid impact on the thorax, abdomen, shoulder and pelvis of the established human finite element model.By comparing the crash kinetic response and internal organ damage response of the Chinese and THUMS occupants model under smalloverlap impact simulation,it is clear that there are significant differences between the Chinese occupants and the THUMS model in human injury.the HIC value the Chinese occupant model being 143.5 higher than that of the THUMS model, the sternum being severely impacted and the number of rib fractures being two more than that of the THUMS model. While the chest deformation value of THUMS model being 9mm higher than Chinese occupants model.By optimising the parameters of the occupant restraint system, the trend of the influence of the variables of the restraint system on the risk of injury to various parts of the occupant’s human body was determined, and by matching the parameters of the restraint system, the comprehensive risk of injury to the Chinese occupant’s human body was reduced from52.48% to 27.85%...
