Composition,Contrast,Complexity

Modern Dutch architecture has been world-renowned for high level of design,and presents two different trends in the context of globalization.Represented by Koolhaas,one is to use avantgarde ideas and exaggerated methods to promote "built ideas" and lead the trend of architecture in the world.The other is based on the mainstream regional traditions of the Netherlands,building "ideal buildings" with pragmatic ideas and subtle vocabulary,focusing on the use of architecture.The latter has a high significance for change of building homogenization,dedication to urban renewal,and improvement of building quality.Mecanoo is one of the typical representatives of such architectural groups.This paper takes the practical works of the firm as research object,and analyzes the design methods of "Composition","Contrast" and "Complexity" used in the construction of "ideal buildings" to show the rational and innovative Dutch architecture and provide design experience.This paper starts with the background of the formation of Mecanoo’s design ideas from three aspects: the geographical and cultural characteristics of the Netherlands,the development of modern Dutch architectural thoughts in the 20 th century,and the Dutch architectural education.Ten claims put forward on this basis.Based on these ten claims,this paper researches and refines the three design methods of Mecanoo,namely "organic composition,natural intervention","material contrast,exquisite construction" and "analysis of complexity,design by research".Then the author uses the three methods to analyze works that Mecanoo has carried out in China.Based on a large number of literature,this paper conducts an in-depth analysis to explore Mecanoo’s design process of building "ideal buildings".In addition,by introducing organizational type,team composition,media propaganda and work spirit of Mecanoo,this paper presents a working model of typical Dutch architecten to provide inspiration to the development of Chinese architecture design.
