With the improvement of people’s living standards and the increase of cultural needs, exhibition buildings have been rapidly developed and constructed today. However, too fast development is often accompanied by corresponding problems. The too changeable exhibition format and complex space bring about the problems that visitors are prone to lose their sense of direction, get lost and tired during the visit.Unlike pathfinding with specific goals, pedestrians tend to be more free to find paths in environments without specific destinations and involve more spatial cognition.Traditional research methods can no longer meet the needs of such exploratory pathfinding research. This also requires research to make innovations in methods. This article takes the Dalian Urban Planning Exhibition Center as an example. The space of the building is flexible and open. The visitors are not restricted and follow their own plans to visit, orientate them according to the environmental elements they see and the destinations they can choose. From the perspective of the visual domain, the research and innovation adopted the Isovist analysis method. This method can overcome the only qualitative analysis of space in the past and quantify the characteristics of space.Combining the behavior data of 150 visitors collected through tracking and observation, behavior annotation, etc.,using statistical principal component analysis, the spatial factors that affect the wayfinding behavior are obtained: the complexity of the horizon space, the complexity of the horizon space The size and the attractiveness of the horizon space. In the later period, logistic regression was used to further analyze the impact of various spatial characteristics on pathfinding behavior, and to generate a predictive model based on the results of the regression. Finally, based on the analysis results,an optimization strategy for the case building space was proposed from the perspective of the visual domain. The prediction model obtained by regression analysis can predict the pathfinding behavior of the space before construction and guide the design.Although the predictive model is not the truth, the perspectives and methods of this research can provide references for subsequent related research.By increasing the number of case buildings, the scientificity and accuracy of the model can be continuously improved.
