In the problem of highway toll adjustment, the four-step model can be used to calculate the transferring traffic. But the optimal number of traffic analyzing zones has always been a very confusing issue. The more detailed the traffic analyzing zones division, the more accurate the traffic analysis results, but this will cause the problem of excessive workload. For this reason, when the number of traffic analyzing zones is different, the difference in the analysis results of the traffic model, the hidden mechanism behind the difference, and the hidden path changing law in this difference are important questions. The study provides the most suitable standard for dividing the traffic analyzing zones and enriches people’s understanding of the toll adjustment problem of highways.Firstly,it discusses how to build a four-step model to accurately measure the traffic flow.Secondly, the method of finding the spatial scale difference of the traffic analyzing zones division of the analysis result of the traffic model is studied by adjusting the spatial scale of the traffic analyzing zones division and the toll adjustment range of the highway.Thirdly, after analyzing the principle of this difference, the method of multiple linear regression is used to find the law of path selection changes. Finally, through the case of toll adjustment of highways in a city in China, the above methods are applied and some important conclusions are obtained. The analyzing results of the case show that:(1)When the degree of traffic analyzing zones division reaches the convenience of choosing highway travel at any point within each traffic analyzing zones(the location of the centroid of the traffic analyzing zones, the location of the centroid link, the distance from the high-speed ramp, etc.will affect this)This convenience is relatively consistent, the scale of this division is the most appropriate.(2)The spatial scale difference of the cell division results of the analysis of the traffic model is microscopically caused by the change of the partial travel route selection. These trips can be divided into three major categories. After describing the parameters of the path selection rule,it is found that the influencing factors of these three types of trips vary in path selection, and some influencing factors are rarely mentioned in domestic and foreign literature.(3)Superimpose the two factors of the spatial scale of the cell division and the toll adjustment range to explore its impact on the path selection. After discussion,we found that with the change of the toll adjustment range of the highway, the difference between the highway toll cost and the the difference in the travel time consumed between the two independent variable partial regression coefficients, and the opposite of the magnitude of change between the two partial regression coefficients.
