Abstract/Summary:
Coal consumption and CO2 emissions are the major concerns of the 21st century. Most of the power is generated by the burning of hydrocarbon(HC)fuels and on the other hand, renewable energy has very little contribution.Solar aided(coal-fired)power generation(SAPG)is paid more and more attention globally, due to lesser coal rate and lower initial cost than the conventional coal-fired power plant and CSP technology respectively. In this thesis, dynamic characterstics of the solar parabolic field integrated with 330MW coal-fired power plant has been proposed. The solar thermal energy is used to preheat the boiler feedwater instead of steam extraction. The system simulation model has been developed on EBSILON Professional software&Engineering Equation Solver(EES)software and,1 day and 1 year system dynamic characteristics performance are analyzed using fuel-saving mode under typical weather data of Thar,Pakistan. The simulation results show that the whole day,all parameters are working under safe range, and power output is constant. For this proposed case, the calculated solar field area is 304084 m2 and, annually 110200 tons of coal would be saved. On a typical day during peak solar insolation, the solar effective heat added to the feedwater is 171 MW therefore;plant thermal efficiency reaches 48%,and the coal flow rate decreases from 245 t/h to 190 t/h.
