Research On Development Strategy For Power Generation Planning In Cambodia

Nowadays,Cambodia’s economy has moved from lower-income to middle lower-income.The national strategic development plan urges the county’s economy to grow rapidly in all sectors.due to this growth in this last decade,the increasing of electricity demand has grown very fast and this makes the actual demand become higher than forecasting demand in Cambodia power development master plan that study by ministry of mines and energy(MME)at 2015.in this situation,the government of Cambodia was urgent to reconstruct a new Cambodia power development master plan.This research focuses on the methods and key points to solve and prepare the development strategy for power generation planning in Cambodia.There are two main parts which need to get analyzed and discussion for this project.The first part is power demand forecasting in long-term for prediction the energy demand(GWh)and peak demand(MW)form 2020-2030.due to the power demand growth is related and also depends on the growth of economy and population so researcher propose multiple linear regression model for forecasting electricity power demand by using GDP growth,price of electricity each sector and population as the main parameter and power demand was category into three main sectors as industry,residential and commercial sector.tool"simple-e" was selected for simulation and analysis the model equation then computes the result of forecasting.Second part is power generation planning,which studies about potential of primary energy resource in the county.follows the government’s policies to reduce electric price,reducing import power from neighbor countries,discussion on reserve margin for ensure demand supply and power balance with the existing plan from national generation planning by MME,it suggest to encourages the electric power generated from green and renewable energy such as hydro solar and wind power plant also the LNG power plant should be consider and proposed for generation planning to reduce power generate form coal and HFO power plant.The conclusion will find out and give some recommendation to understand about the weak points,challenges,problems facing,human resource,and new technologies for developing power generation planning for Cambodia from 2020-2030.
