Research On The Residential Public Space Design From The Perspective Of Women

With the continuous development of feminism,various disciplines have gradually set off a wave of discussions on gender issues.In the fields of planning and architecture,the study of female and space has gradually become a new trend in China.Due to differences in physiology and behaviour,women show different space requirements from men.The quality of Residential space is directly related to women life.However,in a patriarchal society,women rarely participate in space design work,and their requirements for residential space is less considered.Nowadays,modern society is more and more pluralistic and inclusive,however,the contradiction between the homogeneous residential space and the various needs derived from gender differences still exists in reality.Therefore,based on the perspective of women,this research starts with the relationship between female and space,analyzing the psychological and physical characteristics of women,and exploring women’s demands for residential public space.This research takes Xiamen’s typical residential area and local female residents as objects.The study used observation,questionnaires and other methods to collect the female residents’activity types,activity paths,activity sites,and their subjective spatial experience preferences for analyzing and summarizing the related female-friendly factors of residential public space and design principles.At the same time,combining the indigenous characteristics of Xiamen,the research also explores the female-friendly residential public space design models for Xiamen.Finally,based on China’s conditions,this dissertation proposes coping strategies for female-friendly residential public space from the perspectives of the functions and layout of residential public space,residential morphology,policy orientation and social care.The research aims to provide knowledge for gender-sensitive issues and people-oriented residential design so that public spaces in residential space will be equally enjoyed by each gender,and harmonious society will be built.
