Barriers Of Green Supply Chain Management Implementation Among Leading Automobile Companies In Emerging Market Economies

The implementation of eco-friendly approaches for the automobile sector in developed countries has been subject to abundant studies,whereas in emerging market economies very few researches has been conducted.The study’s main goal is to enrich the theoretical contribution in this field of research,by leading a study about the barriers of Green Supply Chain Management(GSCM)implementation in emerging market economies.A selection of five representative countries has been made;China,Morocco,Mexico,Turkey and Russia.The DEMATEL approach has been used to identify,analyze,classify and study the cause-effect relationship amid barriers among leading automobile companies in the five sample countriesA better understanding of these barriers will help observe and check the progression level of environmentally friendly practices implementation among leading automobile companies in emerging market-economiesFurthermore,this is one of the first studies on identifying the GSCM barriers for the automobile sector in emerging countries led by the mean of DEMATEL.This research methodology analyzes the barriers that influence GSCM implementation in the five representative countries,evaluate the importance and effect of each barrier by splitting them into two categories,most basic and most important barriersThis study was conducted using a two-rounds questionnaire nominated for the data collection The result of the first questionnaire which is a DEMATEL matrix will be analyzed using the same approach for each company uniformly to their economic growth,their supply chain stage,and their eco-friendly implemented concept whether it is Lean Manufacturing,Ford Production System,Green Supply Chain Management,or other environment-friendly practices.There have been very close results between the five sample countries;few differences were pointed in the "discussion" where some individual cases could be due to different factors that are also a part of the country’s identifications criteria as a representative emerging market economyIn conclusion,data analysis result is delivered with some recommendations for an efficient and effective short-term and long-term GSCM action plan integration,which will help suppress those barriers,promote a better environment,and strengthen a continuous and sustainable implementation of GSCM in the future.
