| Yunnan, located in the southwest of China,is rich in natural resources, which is of great strategic significance in the period of unification in Chinese history. As a result, each dynasty has adopted an immigration policy in Yunnan province, relocating the population of the Central Plains to Yunnan to achieve a unified and stable regime. This paper examines the characteristics of the pottery industry in Yunnan regarding its migrant culture, through the analysis of the historical migration and survival of potters, the historical background of their entry into Yunnan, their development of localization in Yunnan, the birth of Huaning pottery and the formation of its style, and the living wisdom and inspiration of Huaning potters,so as to explore how the advanced pottery-making techniques carried by Central Plains culture influenced and promoted Yunnan’s pottery industry through the garrisoning of the border.Meanwhile, this paper interprets the way of survival of Huaning potters from the perspective of "qi yi zai dao(ware as the vehicle of ideas)",and the results of the study will serve as a reference and offer inspiration for contemporary potters(ceramic practitioners)to survive and develop in non-traditional ceramic-producing areas. This paper firstly outlines the way of being and migration of potters in the centralized feudal dynasty, and analyzes the inflow of people,as well as potters, into Yunnan in different historical periods, and further clarifies the social reasons behind the potters inflow.Secondly,by studying the localization of the potters in Yunnan, especially through the kilns built by them, the paper verifies the role of the incoming potters in accelerating the development of the local pottery industry, and in recording with artifacts the integration of Central Plains cultures with local cultures.Thirdly, the paper focuses on analyzing the intelligence of existence of Huaning potters in all dynasties, and summarizes the adaptability and entrepreneurship that they showed in order to survive after migrating from their traditional area to the new environment. Finally,as a ceramic practitioner, the author came to Huaning from Jingdezhen, and communicated with local pottery inheritors, thus trying to design some interesting daily life ceramic products in the graduation project.Hopefully the authors efforts as a contemporary potter can work to continue this cultural integration, and have some inspiring collision with the Yunnan ceramics industry. |
