In recent years,green development has increasingly become an important trend of China’s economic development.Environmental investment is an important policy tool to promote green development in China.At the same time,science and technology is the main driving force of economic growth,is an important link to improve the overall national strength,straightening out the "environmental investment-scientific and technological innovation-carbon emission intensity" mechanism,for the realization of green economic development in China is of great practical significance.In this paper,the panel variable coefficient model is used to explore the impact of environmental investment on the competitiveness of scientific and technological innovation in various provinces and cities.Panel quantile regression model was used to explore the impact of technological innovation competitiveness on carbon emission intensity and the impact of environmental investment on carbon emission intensity.Based on the above research conclusions,group comparison of carbon emission intensity was conducted to further clarify the mechanism among "environmental investment-scientific and technological innovation-carbon emission intensity".Finally,it provides policy suggestions from the perspective of environmental investment and carbon emission intensity.The results show that the environmental protection investment has a positive effect on the competitiveness of scientific and technological innovation,and the positive effect is strongest in the western region,and the negative effect is weakest in the eastern region.In regions with high carbon emission intensity,environmental protection investment has a weak promoting effect on the competitiveness of scientific and technological innovation,a weak inhibiting effect on carbon emission intensity,and a weak direct inhibiting effect on carbon emission intensity.In the regions with weak carbon emission intensity,environmental protection investment has a stronger promoting effect on the competitiveness of scientific and technological innovation,and the inhibiting effect of scientific and technological innovation competitiveness on carbon emission intensity is stronger,and the direct inhibiting effect of environmental protection investment on carbon emission intensity is also stronger.
