In recent years,China’s economy has ushered in rapid growth.However,China is also facing problems such as energy shortages and environmental degradation.To this end,China is exploring and practicing a new economic growth model-green growth.At the same time,the development and utilization of new energy is regarded as one of the ways to achieve green growth.However,can the new energy industry,which is highly dependent on fiscal subsidies,really promote the green growth of the economy? That is,does the use of new energy actually have an impact on the efficiency of regional green growth? For different regions,is there any difference in the impact of the use of new energy on the efficiency of regional green growth?The answers to these two key questions will help to better formulate new energy development policies in various regions and provide policy recommendations for achieving the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality.First of all,this paper combs the green growth theory and efficiency theory and analyzes the domestic and foreign research status of new energy utilization and the green growth efficiency.Secondly,this paper uses panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2000 to 2017 to analyze the current status of new energy utilization and green growth.Furthermore,the green growth efficiency of each province in China was calculated by constructing a super-efficiency DEA model based on the directional distance function.Third,the Dagum Gini coefficient method is used to analyze the regional differences in the green growth efficiency of the three regions.Finally,the Tobit model is established to analyze the differential impact of the use of new energy on the regional green growth efficiency.The main research results of this article show:(1)There are regional differences in China’s green growth efficiency.Green growth efficiency is the largest in the eastern region,followed by the central region and the smallest is in the western region.The green growth efficiency of China and the eastern region shows a trend of first decline and then rise.The central and western regions show the characteristics of fluctuating and rising.(2)On the whole,the use of new energy has hindered the efficiency of China’s regional green growth.(3)From a regional perspective,in the eastern region,the use of new energy has a negative impact on the efficiency of regional green growth.In the central region,the use of new energy and regional green growth efficiency have a positive U-shaped relationship.In the western region,there is no significant relationship between them.Based on the research conclusions of this article,the following suggestions are put forward.At this stage,China should vigorously develop and utilize new energy and expand the scale of new energy.In the eastern region,China should pay attention to reducing the cost of developing and utilizing new energy.In the central region,the scale of new energy development and utilization should be appropriately expanded.In the western region,China should pay more attention to the quality of regional economic development and improve the efficiency of green growth.
