Analyzing regional differences in regional carbon intensity helps to effectively allocate resources and control greenhouse gas emissions. The reduction of carbon intensity is conducive to reducing the occurrence of extreme weather, slowing down global warming and slowing down sea level rise. The divisions of China’s eight comprehensive economic zones have many common places in the region, such as natural conditions, economic relations, spatial location and social structure. Therefore, this paper takes the representative eight major economic regions of China as the research object, and uses Theil index and PLS-VIP analysis method to analyze the spatio-temporal changes, regional differences and influencing factors of carbon intensity in the eight major economic regions of China from 2005 to 2017.Provide scientific basis for energy saving and emission reduction, protection of regional environment and other policies. The main research contents and results of this article are as follows:(1)Spatio-temporal changes in carbon intensity of China’s eight comprehensive economic zones: by comparing the annual changes in average carbon emissions, per capita carbon emissions, per capita carbon emissions, and carbon intensity of each economic zone, and combining 2005,2010,2015 and An analysis of the spatial distribution map of carbon emissions and carbon intensity in 2017 found that the carbon emissions of various economic zones showed a rising trend in time, and showed a gradual increase in space from west to east and from south to north;carbon in each economic zone Except for the northwestern economic zone, the intensity has a general trend of diminishing fluctuations in time changes, and the spatial trend is gradually increasing from east to west and from south to north.(2)Regional differences in carbon intensity of China’s eight comprehensive economic zones: The Theil index method is used to calculate the overall difference in carbon intensity of China’s eight economic zones. The Theil Index and the differences in carbon intensity between economic zones and provinces within the region Index, and then calculate the contribution rate of each economic zone interval and intra-regional difference Theil index to the national difference theil index. The result shows that the overall difference in carbon intensity of the eight major economic regions of China shows an increasing trend, and then analyzes the carbon of the eight major economic regions of China. The main reason for regional differences in intensity is the widening of regional differences, while regional differences contribute less to the overall difference.(3)Research on the influencing factors of carbon intensity: According to the STIRPAT expansion model, the main influencing factors that affect the carbon emission intensity of China’s eight economic regions include per capita GDP,population, industrial structure, energy consumption structure, urbanization level, and energy intensity. Then based on the PLS-VIP method for regression analysis, the correlation between each influencing factor and carbon intensity is obtained, and the difference in the importance of each influencing factor on the carbon intensity is determined by calculation. The results show that the elasticity coefficient of the source intensity varies from 0.430 to 1.257,and the VIP value varies from 0.967 to 1.707,indicating that the energy intensity has an important influence on the carbon intensity of each region and a strong explanatory ability;the energy structure and GDP per capita also form the difference in carbon intensity in the interval The main contributor, the region whose carbon intensity is most affected by the energy structure is the northern coastal area, and the impact of the energy structure on the carbon emissions of the Northeast Economic Zone and the Northwest Economic Zone is weak.Except for the Northwest Economic Zone,GDP per capita has a greater impact on the carbon intensity of each economic zone. The impacts are all negative, and the most significant regions are all in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River Economic Zone. For every 1.0% increase in GDP per capita and GDP per capita, the carbon intensity will decrease by 0.169% and 0.278%,respectively;The influence and interpretation ability are generally weak, but their elastic coefficients and VIP values vary from-0.231 to 0.090 and 0.129 to 0.465,respectively,indicating that the population has little effect on regional carbon intensity differences.(4)Policy recommendations for the spatial and temporal changes and influencing factors of carbon intensity in each economic zone: In view of the regional differences in carbon intensity of the eight major economic zones in China, combined with the spatial and temporal changes and influencing factors of carbon intensity in each economic zone, explore regional characteristics and differences according to local conditions Emphasis on emission reduction path.
