In 2018,China’s GDP has exceeded the 90 trillion yuan mark for the first time, and its economy ranks second in the world. In recent years, the high-frequency air pollution problem caused by the extensive economic growth model has seriously affected the quality and sustainability of economic growth.Various regions have adopted measures such as energy conservation and emission reduction policies, reasonable asset capital allocation, and increased investment in scientific and technological innovation to reduce the degree of air pollution and improve the efficiency of green economic development.Do these measures drive a significant improvement in urban green total factor productivity? The geographical location and factor endowment of different regions are obviously different. What is the difference in the efficiency of improving green total factor productivity?Does the high investment in technological innovation effectively drive the increase of green total factor productivity? It is of great significance to explore these issues for the harmonious and green development of the economy and society. In the process of shifting from an extensive economic model to an intensive economic model,in the context of varying degrees of economic development and continuous adjustment of industrial structure, the changes in air pollution and green total factor productivity in different regions are different. The relationship between them is worth further exploration.Using panel data of airborne PM2.5fine particulate matter, green total factor productivity and other control variables from 280prefecture-level cities in China from 2005 to 2014.This research conducts an empirical analysis of the mechanism of air pollution affecting the urban green total factor productivity.Found as follows:(1)There is a significant positive correlation between air pollution and green total factor productivity.(2)From the perspective of regional differences, the positive correlation between air pollution and green total factor productivity in the western region is the most significant, followed by the central region, and the eastern region shows a negative correlation.(3)The effect of the secondary industry on driving the growth of green total factor productivity is better than that of the tertiary industry.(4)The level of innovation and human capital as intermediate factors has played an important role in promoting the improvement of total green factor productivity.According to the analysis of the relationship between China’s air pollution and green total factor productivity and influencing factors,it is recommended to implement differentiated emission reduction policies for different regions;accelerate the transformation and upgrading of the industrial structure of the industry, and improve the quality of Chinese manufacturing to Chinese intelligent manufacturing; The level of scientific and technological innovation, improve the transformation efficiency and sharing of scientific and technological achievements, increase the training of high-level talents, and it provides endogenous power, promotes coordinated economic and environmental development, and optimizes the rational allocation and utilization of domestic and foreign funds.
