In the process of vigorously promoting the construction of "Digital China" in China,the digital economy has also become one of the core growth poles of our country’s economy.The digital transformation of the whole society and the digital empowerment of the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries have quietly become an important focus of economic development.Digital economy has gradually become the "new highland" for most cities in China to focus on layout and construction.At the same time,promoting green and low-carbon development is the due obligation of China to achieve high-quality development and the necessary way to realize "Beautiful China",so fully considering the environmental and resource elements of green total factor productivity has become an important indicator for measuring the high-quality development of urban economy in China.However,in the face of the current situation of tightening resource constraints,limited environmental capacity,fragile ecosystem in China,the industrial structure is biased towards "heavy".And the driving force of innovation factors is insufficient,and the transformation and upgrading of economic structure urgently needs to release new momentum,how to achieve the comprehensive green transformation of urban economy under the drive of digital economy has become the focus of regional economists,urban economists and environmental economists in recent years.We can see that exploring the role path of digital economy influencing the growth of urban green total factor productivity has important theoretical and practical significance.In view of this,this thesis,starting from the current situation of development of digital economy in Chinese cities,clarifies the laws of urban digital economic development,and explores the realization mechanism of digital economy empowering the growth of urban green total factor productivity.It is not only a thinking about the real problems,but also a supplement and improvement of the existing research.Based on the actual background of China’s urban digital transformation and green development transformation,and the analysis paradigm of new economic geography,this thesis deconstructs the impact and mechanism of digital economy development driving urban green development from a spatial perspective.We aim to evaluate the real impact of digital economy on urban green development transformation and provide a basis for formulating policies to promote sustainable urban development.Based on the research gap,we systematically discusses the research and analysis of four issues.First,can the digital economy development promote the improvement of green total factor productivity? Second,heterogeneous effect of digital economy development on green total factor productivity.Third,spatial effect of digital economy development on green total factor productivity.Fourth,relevant mechanisms of digital economy development affecting green total factor productivity.Focusing on the core research theme of digital economy development and green total factor productivity.According to the empirical analysis results,the main conclusions of this thesis are as follows:First,about the characteristic facts of digital economy andgreen total factor productivity.During the research period,the level of digital economy development in Chinese cities continued to improve,and the western cities represented by Chongqing,Chengdu and Guiyang performed prominently in the development of digital economy,especially the Chengdu-Chongqing metropolitan area has formed a relatively obvious "fulcrum" for the development of digital economy.The growth of green total factor productivity in China’s cities shows a situation of east-west differentiation and northsouth differentiation at the same time,and the distribution from east to west is in a stepwise decreasing state.Second,the development of urban digital economy has always had a positive impact on urban green total factor productivity,with a "pollution halo" effect.Moreover,the role of digital economy development in promoting urban green total factor productivity is mainly due to technological progress.However,there are significant regional differences in the impact effect,and the digital economy has a significant positive impact on green total factor productivity in the eastern and western regions,and a significant negative impact on the northeastern region.Further research finds that the impact of digital economy on urban green total factor productivity has nonlinear characteristics.Specifically,as the level of industrial premiumization,green innovation,and innovation activity break through the threshold,the coefficient of digital economy development level will be significantly positive.However,when the urban green attention and the green attention of the city government are low,the coefficient of digital economy development level is still significantly positive,and with the continuous expansion of the urban green attention coefficient,but with the improvement of the green attention of the city government,the coefficient of digital economy development level becomes negative.Third,cities with similar degrees of digital economy development have spatial agglomeration characteristics,and cities with similar green total factor productivity values have spatial agglomeration characteristics.From the perspective of time changes,cities are constantly joining the "high-high" agglomeration model,and more and more cities are exiting the "low-low" agglomeration mode.The results of spatial Dubin model regression show that there are both "demonstration effects" and "crowding out effects" on urban green development transformation of urban digital economy development,and the "demonstration effect" is greater than the "crowding out effect".From the perspective of regional heterogeneity,there are positive spatial spillover effects of green total factor productivity in the Yangtze River midstream city cluster,Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration,Yangtze River Delta city cluster and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.Fourth,the research on the mechanism of digital economy affecting urban green total factor productivity shows as follows.(1)From the perspective of industrial structure,under different spatial matrix conditions,the development of urban digital economy is conducive to urban industrial structure upgrading,and the digital economy is mediated by industrial structure upgrading,which significantly promotes the growth of urban green total factor productivity through conduction.In addition,from the perspective of spatial effects,there is a positive spatial spillover effect in industrial structure upgrading,and the advanced and rationalization of urban industrial structure affected by neighboring cities,indicating that the relationship between urban digital economy development and industrial structure affected by spatial externalities.(2)From the perspective of innovation spillover,the digital economy has significantly promoted the growth of urban green total factor productivity through the mediation of urban green innovation level and urban innovation activity.The empirical results verify the inference in the theoretical model that "the higher the level of agglomeration in the digital economy sector,the more conducive it is to improve the growth of regional green total factor productivity through innovation effects".The diffusion effect of the digital economy has a profound impact on all social and economic fields,and the development of the digital economy has broken information barriers,reduced communication costs,and made it easier for entrepreneurs,especially high-tech entrepreneurs,to obtain market information.(3)Based on the perspective of resource allocation,this paper verifies the path of digital economy development to promote the growth of urban green total factor productivity by increasing public green attention and government green attention.With the improvement of urban economic development,urban residents will pay more attention to the environment and green development,and city governments will pay more attention to environmental quality,which confirms the existence of the environmental Kuznets curve.The development of the Internet has broken down information barriers,is conducive to public participation in and discussion of politics,eliminates the original "information disadvantage",enables the public to give full play to its supervisory role,affects the enthusiasm of enterprises in environmental governance,and improves the efficiency of government environmental governance,thereby improving the urban green total factor productivity.Based on the main research conclusions,we put forward policy suggestions for digital economy to drive the growth of urban green total factor productivity: First,promote the coordinated development of regional digital economy and form a new pattern of "taking points with areas" and "south with north".The second is to adhere to the green development strategy and promote the upgrading of the industrial structure with digital empowerment.The third is to adhere to the innovation-driven development strategy and empower the green economy with digital transformation and innovation factors.The main contributions of this thesis are in three aspects.(1)In the measurement of the digital economy,this thesis makes use of the entropy method,text analysis,and machine learning technology to construct a comprehensive evaluation index system to the digital economy development level of Chinese cities.We try to obtain data from a more direct and micro level for a more accurate evaluation of the development level of the urban digital economy.(2)Combining the extended Solow model,the "centerperiphery" model,and the agglomeration economy-productivity theory model.The thesis separates the digital economy sector,which embedded in the traditional industry sector,and constructs an extended C-P model that includes the traditional industry sector and the digital economy sector,incorporating the impact of digital economy aggregation into the production function of the traditional industry.Theoretically,it analyzes the industrial structure upgrading effect,innovation effect,allocation effect,and spatial effect mechanism of the digital economy affecting urban green total factor productivity growth.We try to elucidate the microscopic mechanism of digital economy development leading to the transformation of urban economic development mode and causing the transformation of urban economic kinetic energy,which complements the existing studies.(3)Integrating spatial econometric models and mediating effect models to test the growth mechanism of the digital economy affecting green total factor productivity,and solving possible endogeneity problems by finding a series of instrumental variables.
