Abstract/Summary:
In this study, based on the systemic analysis of the concept, the theory, the index system and the method of eco-environment quality assessment, combined with the eco-environment quality assessment of hydraulic engineering, with comprehensive considerrtion of the factors such as environment, society, economy, by means of RS and GIS, the eco-environment quality along the east route of South-to-North Water Transfer Project in Jiangsu Province was assessed with the comprehensive assessment method. It is important to operate water transfer project safely, to maintain the eco-environment quality along water transfer project and to promote the sustainable development of the region along water transfer project. The research results as follows:First, a systematic and multi-factored eco-environment quality index system along the east route of South-to-North Water Transfer Project in Jiangsu Province was established. It consists of three subsystems:natural eco-environment subsystem (five indexes), ecological destruction and environmental pollution subsystem (four indexes) and socio-economy subsystem (six indexes). The fifteen indexes were:mean annual temperature, annual average precipitation, water resource quantity per person, farmland areas per person, vegetation cover, water and soil loss amount, agricultural non-point sources pollution load, treatment rate of industrial waste water, standard-reaching rate of water quality, per capita GDP, population density, proportion of environmental protection investment in GDP, exploitation rate of water resources utilization, proportion of industrial and agricultural production Value in GDP, food productivitySecond, quantative models involved in vegetation cover, water and soil loss amount, as well as agricultural non-point sources pollution load were established; a little further, the comprehensive index assessment model based on grey correlation was established. Taking advantage of RS and GIS, which are both, specialized in input, save, management and analysis of space data. The spatial and temporal dynamic of index factors and the eco-environment quality along the east route of South-to-North Water Transfer Project in Jiangsu Province were both analyzed with these models.Third, as can be shown by model analysis of index factors of vegetation cover, water and soil loss amount and agricultural non-point sources pollution load in typical years, the vegetation cover was reduced from 52.66% to 48.29%, the proportion of light water and soil loss area was decreased from 4.13% to 3.20% in representative years 2000 and 2005, and the agricultural non-point source pollution load increased from 2000 to 2005.Lastly, based on established grey correlation-basical comprehensive index assessment model, the eco-environment quality along the east route of South-to-North Water Transfer Project in Jiangsu Province was assessed. As a result, during 1998-2007, the eco-environment quality of the whole region along water transfer project was general, but that of the counties and cities of research region was general or good. It has little spatial differences but large inter-annual fluctuation, the general trend for eco-environment quality indexes among the three assessment subsystem were increased slightly except the subsystem of ecological destruction and environmental pollution.
