With global warming and melting glaciers, the world's environment has undergone tremendous changes.Countries around the world are actively promoting energy saving and emission reduction policies, and China has even announced contribution targets and related initiatives, and set the expected targets of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. With industrial energy accounting for around 38% of China's carbon emissions,it is particularly important to focus on reusing industrial production waste and developing a green circular economy.Along with the continuous development and progress of society,China has become the world's largest apparel processing country, coupled with the rapid and sustained economic development in recent years, the people's growing material life has also led to a sharp rise in the corresponding level of consumption of clothing,China's annual carbon emissions generated by the apparel industry has reached a staggering figure. The pollution problem of textile and garment industry has a long history, and the green transformation is imminent.According to the United Nations data, the clothing industry is the second largest source of pollution after the oil industry, accounting for about one tenth of the global total carbon emissions. It is the second largest polluting industry after the oil industry. In this context,it is imperative that everyone in the apparel industry takes an active role in the development of low carbon apparel design.Along with the increasing deterioration of global ecology and the vigorous promotion of relevant policies, the concept of low-carbon environmental protection has long been deeply rooted in people's hearts, which is not only the progress of social civilisation, but also a sign of the development of the times. In clothing design, using the leftover materials from clothing production and cutting, waste clothing and other materials to achieve the design concept of low-carbon and environmental protection, and adhering to the viewpoint of sustainable development can not only provide a broad space for the innovative development of clothing industry, but also reflect people's redefinition and interpretation of clothing aesthetics.Based on the above issues, this paper explores the low-carbon aspects of design in relation to patchwork art and apparel design,in order to find a realizable low-carbon development path for the apparel industry. The article is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, which mainly discusses the research purpose and background, research contents and methods, research status at home and abroad, and the innovation of this topic.Chapter 2 introduces the concept of carbon neutrality and apparel design in detail, respectively, and summarises the new term'low carbon apparel design' based on the relationship between the two and their mutual integration and influence. The meaning, characteristics and development prospects are elaborated, and the need and feasibility of future development are analysed. In Chapter 3,the characteristics of the combination of patchwork and costume design were analyzed, and elaborates on the concept and classification of patchwork art,and compare and analyze the features of the Chinese and Western patchwork art applications in costume, divided by region.Chapter four focuses on the application and innovation of quilting art in low-carbon clothing design, arguing for the importance of the future development of our country and its broad development prospects, and summarising the relevant creative research solutions according to its own characteristics.Chapter 5 presents a series of practical creations of ready-to-wear designs based on the findings of the first four chapters. It concludes with a summary of the research findings and new expectations for the future.
