Textiles can be seen everywhere in daily life,are widely used in various industries,such as clothing,furniture,automotive,medical,etc.,occupying an undervalued part of the market.But the disadvantage of textiles easy to be ignited has not been effectively solved.Every year due to the fire caused by the textiles directly or indirectly burning to our economic losses and casualties are still very heavy.Therefore,the application of textiles is also limited to a certain extent.At present,the direct flame retardant modification of textiles program implementation operation is the most simple and feasible,can avoid the cotton or fiber next step spinning and other complex processes.In addition,with the development of society and the emergence of multi-functional smart materials,a single flame retardant function can no longer meet the needs of people's daily or work on textiles,self-cleaning function,stain resistance,dirt resistance,oil and water separation function,etc.are more favored by the masses.This paper is devoted to the preparation of flame retardant super hydrophobic textiles,which is both flame retardant,self-cleaning and oil-water separating and durable.Two main aspects are involved.Inspired by the superhydrophobic phenomenon of lotus leaves and roses in nature,a type of multifunctional textiles was obtained by depositing bio-based flame retardants and low surface energy modifiers on the surface of textiles by impregnation method.A kind of expanded flame retardants consisting of ammonium polyphosphate(APP)and ?-cyclodextrin(CD)were adhered to the textiles by the adhesion of polydopamine.Then cetyltrimethoxysilane(HDTMS)with low surface energy was grafted on the surface of the flame retardant textiles to form superhydrophobic properties.The static water contact angle and rolling angle of the studied flame retardant superhydrophobic textiles were 154° and 5°,respectively,showing excellent self-cleaning ability and oil-water separation ability(separation efficiency up to 99%±1%).In addition,the surface of the modified textiles remained super hydrophobic with contact angle greater than 150° after a 600 cm friction test with a weight of 100 g on 1000 mesh sandpaper,7 times of oxygen plasma etching-repair test,20 times of tape taping-peeling cycle,knife etching and 72 h acid-alkali corrosion test.Compared with pure textiles,the modified textiles had excellent flame retardant properties and cannot ignite or spread heat and flame in the vertical burning test with a burn length of5 cm.And the study elaborates the flame retardant and superhydrophobic mechanism of superhydrophobic textiles.This chapter proposed a new route of green bionic modification to realize the fire safety and superhydrophobic functional requirements of textiles in practical applications.A sort of expanded flame retardant system consisting of phytanic acid(PA)and polyethyleneimine(PEI)were used to improve the flame retardant properties of textiles using a layer-by-layer self-assembly technique.Then,polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)molecules were grafted onto the surface of the flame retardant textiles after soaking and high temperature curing to reduce its low surface energy and make it exhibit superhydrophobic properties.The multifunctional textiles also exhibiteed excellent self-cleaning and oil-water separation functions and can repeatedly separate various organic and aqueous solutions.In addition,the textiles exhibited excellent durability and stable superhydrophobicity,which can withstand 24 hours of strong acid and alkali corrosion test,360 cm of weight-bearing abrasion with 100 g weights on 1000 mesh sandpaper,5 times of cyclic oxygen plasma etching-repair test,5 times of 30 min/repeat washing test,22 times tape peel test and scratch test.In this chapter,the flame retardant superhydrophobic textiles made by bio-based reagents had the advantages of strong durability and low cost,green,which can be used to fulfil the special functional needs of occupations such as firefighting,aerospace,etc.Therefore,the flame retardant superhydrophobic textiles prepared by bio-based ?-cyclodextrin and phytic acid have the advantages of durability and low cost,green,environmental friendly,clean and halogen free.It broadened the application fields of textile materials,such as firefighting,aerospace and other occupations with special functional requirements and strong acids,strong alkalis and other extreme environments.The successful preparation of multifunctional textiles satisfies the requirements of fire safety factor and superhydrophobic function of textiles in practical applications.
