Research On The Application Of Zigong Paper Cutting In The Creation Of Children’s Picture Books

Paper-cutting is an art form of making paper cutouts by cutting and carving.This paper mainly discusses the origin,development,inheritance and current situation of Zigong paper cutting in China’s paper-cut schools,and studies the recreation of Zigong paper cutting applied to children’s picture books.Zigong paper cutting originated at the turn of the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty,and the art has since been passed down from generation to generation.It was influenced by culture in Sichuan-Chongqing area,and combined the essence of folk customs.Therefore,Zigong paper cutting has the characteristics of both the northern and southern paper-cut styles in patterns and images.It not only absorbed the exquisite craftsmanship of the southern paper cutting,but also learned from the rough and smooth style of the northern paper cutting,presenting a fantastic and unique characteristic.In the 1940s and 1950s,folk artists such as Yu Manbai innovated and developed Zigong paper-cutting,making it an independent and ornamental handicraft art.At that time,a large number of paper-cutting works emerged.Since then,Zigong paper cutting has flourished and formed a relatively fixed production process.However,with the development of science and technology,Zigong paper cutting has the traditional processing method and the modern efficient and convenient processing method in paper material selection,carving skills,stenciling,cutting and carving skills,design and preservation.This paper makes a protective study on Zigong paper cutting,and explores a recreative design for it by going through and analyzing relevant literature,as well as conducting field research.Simply speaking,Zigong paper cutting is used in the creation of children’s picture books.In recent years,children’s picture books are popular in China and play an important role in children’s enlightenment and education.From the perspective of promoting Chinese traditional culture,children’s picture books based on traditional elements can enable children to understand Chinese culture well,but the related picture books are not abundant enough at present.Therefore,this paper discusses the theme,artistic expression style and thematic elements of children’s picture books from the aspects of excellent domestic and foreign painting and picture books,paper-cut picture books,paper carving and pop-up books.Then the art value of Zigong paper cutting in the creation of children’s picture books is further analyzed.Finally,on the basis of the above analysis,the author creates the Zigong paper-cutpicture book “Meze Sinks the Well” for children,intending to combine the modern picture book composition design with the traditional Zigong paper cutting skills to create works with Chinese elements.Hopefully,it will satisfy the needs of children,and familiar children with the art and traditional culture.Meanwhile,Zigong paper-cut picture books can also provide new ideas for the inheritance,protection and development of Zigong paper-cut in the future,and explore more ways for the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage.
